Renewed: Raising Hope

Good news for TEN with Raising Hope renewed for a second season.

Good news for TEN with Raising Hope renewed for a second season.

The comedy, which has been airing over summer, is one of FOX’s few new successes of the Fall season.

“I’m happy that the show is getting another year,” creator Greg Garcia said. “But the fact that I’ve been trying to think of a funny quote for the last two hours and this is the best I could come up with makes me a little nervous about season two.”

Yikes.

The show has divided readers on TV Tonight, who recently rated it highly in both Best New Show and Worst Show. Go figure.

  1. Absolutely brilliant show. Love it. Usually I’m not a fan of US comedies, but they seem to be getting better, also love that there is no laughter track.

  2. I did not like the show at first. I watched a few more episodes and I love it now. It’s the only show I’ve been watching over the summer break. It’s a pity that the episodes are out of order. Jimmy was working at the supermarket in a past episode. Then they aired the episode where he get a job at the supermarket after he had already been working there.

  3. It’s been the one shining light, in what has been the most bland summer schedule for the main channels in my living memory. I did like the sitcom nine had against it, but they took it off after two weeks.

  4. Awesome Show.

I get that they are poor, but I would hardly call them trailer park trash, mostly because they live in a house, albeit with a sexual offender or 3.

  5. My fave is Martha Plimpton – I have loved her ever since The Goonies.

Unfortunately she has been a little underrated (no doubt cos she ain’t ‘hot stuff’) throughout her career.

  6. I can’t get into this show – don’t really find Greg Garcia’s writing funny. But at least Ten has a somewhat popular comedy besides Modern Family, don’t see why more people don’t watch the network

  7. I was among those rating it among the Best – so I’m glad to see it continue.
The further it goes – the more Garret Dillahunt (Burt) owns the show. He was such a great psycho on Burn Notice and Deadwood – but is such a loveable buffoon on this… he is worth the price of admission alone!

  8. I’m one of the fans. I couldn’t get into My name is Earl, but Raising Hope has great heart and sweetness along with the trailer trash-esque context. My only concern which is not borne out by any press i’ve read – is that the legendary Chloris Leachman is reduced to walk on walk off daftness and one liners. She seems to be having a ball playing Maw Maw – she deserves more dignity imo.
Love the cast – each one is beginning to be fleshed out really well. Pleased to read it’s got another season
