CBS cancels remaining Two & a Half Men season

Updated: CBS cancels the remaining season of Charlie Sheen's sitcom. Sheen call Chuck Lorre a "little maggot" and says the show is done "for good."

It’s war in sitcom land.

Never turn on your producer. Not in public anyway  -especially when they have other sitcoms on the go with the network.

CBS and Warner Bros. have cancelled the remaining season of Two and a Half Men, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The move follow anti-semitic comments from Charlie Sheen about the show’s creator, Chuck Lorre on a radio program Thursday.

A statement from CBS and Warner Bros read:

“Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen’s statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of Two and a Half Men for the remainder of the season.”

During Sheen’s lengthy tirade on the Alex Jones Show, he repeatedly refered to Lorre as “Chaim Levine,” and said he spent “close to the last decade effortlessly and magically” converting Lorre’s “tin can into pure gold.”

Sheen noted that he was told that if he went on “attack” execs would cancel the show.

Later, Sheen told TMZ he “violently hated” Lorre and that he “owned” him.

The drama follows Sheen undergoing rehabilitation and staff being stood down for a month. An earlier report that Sheen had left for a holiday to the Bahamas, despite rehearsals being scheduled for next Tuesday.

This will remain a story to watch. There will likely be major repercussions from the latest incident.

In Australia the sitcom has been shedding viewers, down to 545,000 last night -fourth in its timeslot.

Nine has 5 more new episodes to air.

UPDATE: After the announcement of the series shutdown, Sheen fired off an angry letter to TMZ that read:

“What does this say about Haim Levine after he tried to use his words to judge and attempt to degrade me. I gracefully ignored this folly for 177 shows … I fire back once and this contaminated little maggot can’t handle my power and can’t handle the truth. I wish him nothing but pain in his silly travels especially if they wind up in my octagon. Clearly I have defeated this earthworm with my words — imagine what I would have done with my fire breathing fists. I urge all my beautiful and loyal fans who embraced this show for almost a decade to walk with me side-by-side as we march up the steps of justice to right this unconscionable wrong. Remember these are my people … not yours…we will continue on together… Charlie Sheen”

UPDATE 26/2: Sheen calls Fox Sports Radio with Pat O’Brien from the Bahamas … where he claimed during the entire 8-year run on Men he felt like “an unwanted relative being given cold coffee at 9pm every night.”

And now that show execs have shut down production on Men for the rest of the season, Sheen believes the show is also done “for good” … saying, “Can you imagine going back into the sludge pit with those knuckleheads at this point? Can you imagine? It would go bad quickly.”

  1. This is Lough Out Loud funny for Nine IMO. There’s already daylight between 9 and 7 main channels. 2.5 has been wallpapering over a lot of mismanagement for years now. What are they going to do about it in a year they are trying to raise investor interest?

  2. If anything.Probably Hot Seat moves into the 7pm gap and Nine go back to Looney Tunes Cartoons as a lead in to the News.
Most likely I see Temptation coming back sometime this year with new hosts of what we hear is true about No More 2.5 men.

  3. Interesting turn of events – they say don’t bite the hand that feeds you – but both sides have bitten off more than they can chew! 200 people out of work, and a network that has relied upon this show has to do some quick thinking. Something had to give, and perhaps it is a blessing. It is obscene to indulge this guy with 2million per ep and behave the way he does. Do a Darren on Bewitched and cast Jay Mohr or Hamish Linnklater to fill the role. Have Charlie’s face and body so badly wrecked in an ‘incident’, and he returns a new man! Or a 9 year dream, and in fact Charlie is really Jason Alexander, dreaming he was Sheen!
Sorry, this tale does odd things to my thought processes.

  4. Looks like Sheen has dug his grave, and is on the verge of lying in it. Every time his ex-wife Denise Richards came out and make remarks about him I used to take it with a pinch of salt and thought that the guy was just misunderstood. It’s a sad world when you realise she’s the most reasonable one.

Sheen alone is responsible for how his behaviour has affected others, especially since “his” show is now, for lack of a better word, on ice. I’d assume the advertisers finally said they’d pull their ads from the show, because up until now it appears CBS have been enabling him.

  5. This certainly was the last straw which broke the camel’s back. Sheen had done so much blundering in recent years so this was inevitable. The question now is will he ever be back on tv again in my opinion not likely. You have to remember the only reason he lasted this long was because the ratings were up that’s all. Right now Charlie Sheen is damaged goods i don’t think any network or production company will take him on as a employee, people and especially companies don’t want to be associated with a damaged person like that not good for business unless he is helping you rake in the the money through high ratings like he did for CBS.

  6. lol i never seen so much hate for a single tv show before….

i guess the hating-anything-mainstream bug strikes again!

if anything, C9 has a big problem with their 7pm slot…. quiz show? extended news service?

  7. Finally, they are doing what the should have ages ago … it is deplorable that they would want to keep the show going, for the sake of money, and ignore what the “lack of real consequences” was doing to the star … now a very “fallen star”!!!

  8. The letter from Sheen to TMZ is so bad: tmz.com/2011/02/24/charlie-sheen-open-letter-two-and-a-half-men-chuck-lorre-tirade-turd-production-season-shut-down-crew-cbs-warner-bros/

  9. put the tool back in the toolbox shut the lid and lock it with the biggest padlock possibile then get jake to marry someone and have a kid a boy of course and you can still call it two and a half men the men would be alan and jake and the kid would be jakes babyand you would save a sh*t load of cash by not having to pay a certain actor LOL

  10. Wow – that’s pretty self-destructive behaviour on Sheen’s part.
I’ve never watched 2.5 Men, so I still remember Charlie with residual fondness from old movies like ‘Young Guns” and ‘Hot Shots’ and am thus a bit saddened by what seems to be his nervous or mental breakdown. His old man (Martin) had a heart attack and nervous breakdown from drug and alcohol abuse while filming ‘Apocalypse Now’, so the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree.

Or maybe he simply is just a ‘tool’ ! (@ Trix – lol)

  11. @ Trix – probably the best comment here so far.

@ Nathan – I feel for the poor women in your life if you think this misogynist loser is someone you think is great.

I am also sick of the staff of this show whining about their pay – you work on a sitcom that at any moment could fall over for whatever reason so maybe you should investigate a back-up plan.

Lastly Chuck Lorre has been in the tv biz alot longer than Charlie – he is dreaming if he thinks Chuck needs him to survive – if anything it is vice versa.
