Hamish and Andy sign with Nine

Hamish & Andy have confirmed a two year television deal with the Nine Network -but no word on the worth of the deal nor how many shows.

Hamish & Andy have confirmed a two year television deal with the Nine Network.

The comedy paid announced the deal between their production company, Radio Karate and Nine on their radio show.

So far there are no details on how many shows they are committed to nor the format.

“We don’t really know what the show will be yet, but we are super excited that Channel Nine will press play on the VCR, as we’ve decided to stick with VHS as our format of choice. The fact that the Nine Network has the London Olympics next year was a big draw card, mainly because we might score a couple of free tickets to see the Latvian synchronized swimming team,” they said.

The deal also avoids confirming a fee rumoured to be between $15 – $17m.

“Unfortunately for us the figures reported in the paper were way off, but the fact Channel Nine has agreed to foot the bill for our next adventure is great.

Nine’s Director of Television, Michael Healy said, “We’re really excited about the boys joining Channel Nine. They’re great guys and a great fit with Nine’s plans for 2011.”

The duo have pulled good ratings with their specials on TEN, including the Caravan of Courage series. Earlier productions including Real Stories were less successful, but produced before attracting a following on radio. Their earliest work includes a short-lived Hamish and Andy series on Seven.

Snaring the team is a coup for Nine as it continues its 2011 campaign in comedy and entertainment.

Amended.

  1. I thought Australia had woken up to the guys by now. They have never been funny and have had to resort to stupid stunts to keep anyone interested so I’m sure they are going to be a huge success on 9.

As for the suggestion they should do a Dream style show for London, that has the be one of the stupiest things I have ever heard. The Dream worked because Roy and H.G. are actually funny and have vasts amounts of talents, something these two will never have.

  2. Oh my God. Whoever said that Hamish and Andy should do a Roy and HG type show for the Olympics next year is a genius. I would definitely put that down on the list of things for Hamish and Andy to do at Nine. Probably a better idea than a primetime highlights package with Eddie again.

  3. This has Nine Fail written all over it.

The boys come across as complete sellouts and appear to have sold their brand to the highest bidder, which I’m sure looks great for their already bulging bank balance. The Hamish and Andy audience is on Ten, and will remain on Ten..

The whole deal just reeks of the TGYH switch from Ten to Seven and that show never felt the same again, with the Working Dog brand of clever comedy being massively diluted by their greedy desire for Seven’s cash.

    Disappointed fan.

  4. @ Rutzie, I hope you’re right. I think they might just pull that off. They just need to last on the network until the Olympics which is a long time in 9 land.

  5. This is what Nine has needed for a long time. Well known personalties and finally a big investment which should see a well thought out show with decent comedy rather than cheap comedy which has been shown in the past.

I must admit, never been a fan but judging on their previous shows, im sure this will rate good. Hamish & Andy have big personalties and that’s what the difference is in success and fail. As has been shown, Ben and Daryl have already fallen victims to cheap/ old comedy but I have a feeling this maybe a turn around for Nine especially for generation Y.

Nine have invested a lot of money into this so, imo, it will be good quality comedy rather than cheap comedy. All the best to Hamish & Andy + their new show!

  6. @Chris – “I can’t remember the last time Nine has launched a successful comedy project.” – It was when they declared themselves to be the ‘Home of Laughter’ and then saddled us with “Shat My Dad Says”, “Mike and Molly”, and a promo for LfPE that ran longer than the shows did.
