Nine News has just announced it is adding a 5pm national bulletin today, which sounds like the first of a new weekend edition.
According to its Facebook page: “A lot of news at the moment, so today we’re launching an extra news service at 5pm. Join Wendy Kingston FIRST AT 5. Starts today!”
Weather is a big talking point around the country right now, from cyclones, to heat waves to wild storms.
Last weekend TEN moved from its regular 5pm bulletin to 6pm bulletins in each state.

Nine-West, WIN, NBN & Imparja might’ve aired this if they were given some notice. Must be hard to for them to keep up with Nine’s erratic programming changes sometimes?
Wendy’s presentation was far more palatible than Peter Harvey’s efforts at 6pm. Seriously Peter – it’s not an editorial – we don’t care what you think of every news story!
I liked the Ten weekend national bulletin at 5pm – it was good to see news, not just local news!
Anyone remember ‘Live at 5’? with Terry Willisee?
This concept will bomb just as it did.
Not sure how this will work given that ODI cricket is running at the sametime as the News. Maybe Nine News PR department got a little ahead of themselves on this one. GTV9 Melbourne is showing the cricket at 5:09pm
Nine could really stick it to Ten by setting up a 24 hours news channel. They could broadcast it in HD to show the phone and overseas footage pixel artifacts really clearly – in “Crystal Clear High Definition”. Oh, wait – then they’d have nowhere to show their SD copies of ’90s TV shows and ’80s movies.
Davidj so what your saying is that by the end of the year we will only see the news
