Nine adds “First at 5” bulletin

Nine News has announcedva 5pm national bulletin, which sounds like the first of a new weekend edition.

Nine News has just announced it is adding a 5pm national bulletin today, which sounds like the first of a new weekend edition.

According to its Facebook page: “A lot of news at the moment, so today we’re launching an extra news service at 5pm. Join Wendy Kingston FIRST AT 5. Starts today!”

Weather is a big talking point around the country right now, from cyclones, to heat waves to wild storms.

Last weekend TEN moved from its regular 5pm bulletin to 6pm bulletins in each state.

  1. Why do people whinge about no more news?
It is needed. Things arfe happening all the time and networks engage more with their viewers with the immediacy of news. Its much better than repeat scripted programming. You people have no understanding how the TV business works. News is King. And you obviously have never seen local U.S. stations with so many hours of news each day.

  2. More like NIne ‘Stealing’ news at 5! Ten lost their trusted Weekends and Nine grabbed it! It’s like a MasterChef of News has hit us! It’s ‘disgustingly repeditive’!

    It seems, Nine 2010 – Sat-Homecooked with Julie Goodiwn & Sun-Postcards.
    Nine 2011 – Sat-Newscooked with Wendy Kingston! & Sun-Newscards!

I know ABC news 24 is there, but in my opion, at times that’s more like 2 /12 Julia Gillard! :)) Media Watch will have a slumber party on Monday’s return! How can John Holmes and Media Watch , keep up with these news additions!

  3. Surely Nine has something they can fill the time with and I am not thinking 2.5 men episodes,Old Discontinued Here’s Humphrey Bear episodes and if you are in Adelaide Postcards.
Even rescreening My Two Dads or My Two Wives or All Together Now would be an improvement.

  4. That was a quick move by Nine and they stole Ten’s byline, just a week after they dropped their news at 5pm. Was this a dumb move by Ten to drop the early news or a dumb move by Nine which makes them look like they dropped down the ranks to become the ‘new’ Ten. Maybe both.

  5. The more news the better. Especially on weekends. There isn’t nealy enough. Especially wih News 24 going to sleep most weekends between midday and 4pm AEDT.

  6. Wonder why ten dropped it’s weekend 5pm news service, now that it is promoting itself as a serious news station during the weekdays.Nine was quick to take up the slack.

  7. Brilliant idea! I don’t know why Ten didn’t just leave their 5pm bulletin there, because they’re both needed. Their 5pm bulletin could be a national bulletin (like it’s been for a while) and then a local 6pm bulletin (which they now have).

But I can’t help feeling that this move is now going to push the networks for more bulletins on weekends. I’m sure that soon enough we will have a morning news bulletin on weekends as well as a late news bulletin. With kids shows on the digital channels starting to get some audiences, I’m sure it’s possible that we could be seeing a weekend morning show on the main channel.

  8. I don’t think 7 will introduce a 5pm or 4:30pm
bulletin on weekends because some states have local programs from 5pm on weekends.
There is no need for Nine or Seven to have news at 5pm, Ten should just put it back at 5pm because people are used to watching it before the go out on Saturday.
All the networks are adding to many news services and 7,9 & 10 are looking like News Channels.

  9. Copying Channel TEN’s slogan are you Nine. Come up with your own stuff for gods sake! Can’t believe this network!

As for the idea of a 5pm News bulletin it will be the first one for a weekend now TEN has moved to 6pm. Maybe they should move it back asap!

  10. Jacqui Freegard looking like a young Jo Hall from the Melbourne Studio for the flood story… Will be interesting to see if they offer anything different to the 6pm bulletin!
