Melanie and James exit My Kitchen Rules

Controversial contestant Melanie and her husband James were eliminated from My Kitchen Rules last night.

Controversial contestant Melanie and her husband James were eliminated from My Kitchen Rules last night.

The couple was beaten in a sudden death cook-off against Victorians Kane and Lee.

They scored 35/60 for their menu consisting of a stuffed quail with mushrooms entrée, fish stew main and chocolate fondant dessert.

But the Victorian housemates scored 48/60, with their Korean beef tartare entrée, Hainanese chicken with rice main and sweet black rice pudding dessert.

Melanie has proven this year’s most volatile contestant with audiences. Her critiques and directives to husband James have attracted some fiery comments online, with media branding her “The Tassie Tiger.”

She has also been subjected to online abuse.

“Yes (I have regrets about doing the series) as I did this to make my kids proud. I feel like they have been let down,” she said recently.

But at elimination time she was more positive, saying, “It’s sad to be eliminated at this stage of the competition. It’s been a huge adventure and something I will remember forever. I hope we’ve made Tasmania proud.”

James added, “I’ve had the most amazing time, met the most amazing people. I think I will always be a better sax player than bean cutter.”

Next week the show heads to the Northern Territory for three episodes in the Red Centre and the Top End aboard The Ghan.

  1. @Todd, yes, I follow this blog religiously but as I stopped watching TAR a couple of seasons ago, I don’t read any articles about it. It’s great that an Aussie version has been made, though. If I were the producers, I would be hunting James and Melanie down for the next season as we speak. They are a text book perfect TAR couple.

@ David, yes she was a bit fussy. And a nag, And a scold. And disapproving. And haughty…..

@Denis, last week when Artie and Johnny left, several contestants openly cried. Contestant eyes stayed dry last night as Mel and James left. I think that says it all.

  2. I just laughed reading about them in the paper today when she was complaining that she wouldnt have entered because she wanted to cook home food and the judges wanted them to cook masterchef like dishes.

Didnt she watch last season. MKR is about being out of the kitchen home and cook things to the next level.

But poor James he couldnt even walk out and leave last night without her having another go at him. I was like just let him be if he wants to wave let the poor man wave.

I thnk it was also her voice that was a little annoying to.

But yeah you would love to see them on TAR to see what would really happen.

  3. @Allie…. don’t you follow this blog? An Aussie version of TAR has already been filmed and will air on 7 later this year!!! Massive TV news last year, I’m surprised you don’t know!

  4. One wonders if she is really as bad as portrayed or if she let herself be seen in the manner we all witnessed.
If the former is true there is no way anyone would want to go on a trip away with her and I would imagine a deep breath of relief was expelled by the other players.

  5. I view their kissing as wonderfully refreshing, though her negetivity towards her husband was too much and too close to home.
Glad to see the back of her.

  6. @Jerome. Absolutely, they would be perfect on The Amazing Race, they’d probably win it. Melanie has that bossy, scolding schoolmarm thing happening and James meekly follows orders. Perfect couple for that particular show. They have a date with destiny with TAR should an Australian version ever be done.

  7. Thank the good Lord, they are out of there!!! Yee – haaa!!! Their elimination couldn’t come quick enough for me as like many viewers, I did not like either of them. Now I no longer have to tolerate watching him constantly kissing her which will do wonders for my digestion as I am often finishing my dinner as the show is starting. Their constant kissy-kissy was sickening, and I’m glad Manu took a dig at them about it as they were departing. I also no longer have to listen to Melanie bossing James around and scolding him, which is even better. I’m loving this series as well, it is a great improvement over last year’s.

  8. I thought it was interesting how the producers chose this couple’s final 20 seconds to show a montage of their time on the show, complete with Melanie being, well, nice actually. Completely at odds with the way they were portrayed throughout the entire show.

Ah well, everybody loves a good villain, but they love a good editor more.

  9. Thank God! Glad to see the back of them, especially Melanie! Cannot believe the way she spoke to James, like he was a little child.

Hopefully she’s watched these episode and saw how she was portrayed on national TV.

    Go Victoria!

  10. I thought it was fitting that the final words that Melanie made on her way out the revolving door were to admonish her husband, sums up their time on the show really I feel.

  11. Thank God. If I had to watch him kiss her one more time I reckon I would have thrown up.

Loving the series. Will love it even more now that they’re gone.
