Renewed: Fringe

FOX dishes out the good news and co-creator J.J. Abrams says, "Whew! And thanks to Fringe-rs everywhere!!!!"

Fringe has been picked up for a fourth season.

After executive producer J.H. Wyman tweeted to fans: “Fringe was picked up!!!! Thanks Fringedom!” a FOX spokeswoman confirmed the full season pickup.

The pickup comes after it fell to its lowest rating ever in the US last Friday. The show has been awaiting news for the past couple weeks, and there was online speculation it may not get a renewal.

But critical praise for the drama remains strong and FOX reports it is the No. 1 show on Fridays, improving the network’s average on the night by 38%.

Co-creator J.J. Abrams was understandably excited at the news saying, “Whew! And thanks to Fringe-rs everywhere!!!!”

The series is set to return to GO! in early May, due to some pre-emptions in the US in April.

  1. I’ve been searching for news of when this would be back on since it disappeared. Channel Go should have its plug pulled, I never seen such bad customer relations! It’s one thing to pull shows off air without warning, it’s ten times worse when they can’t be bothered keeping people informed. They ignore all queries from the public on this, yet their Facebook page is full to overflowing with complaints and even the Fringe Facebook, iTunes and overseas fan sites are filled with complaints. Seems they have no concerns on these shows being sold elsewhere or people taking their viewing elsewhere. How hard is it to put the occasional announcement out there, instead of advertising coming shows months in advance on such a regular basis you’re sick of the show before they even start.

  2. @ col

Seasons 1 & 2 DVD sets are on sale at the moment (March ) at nearly half price so you might consider getting them now while they are cheaper. I think the series gets better in the second half of the first season and the last episode may have a twist or two that you might like. Or at least surprise you if you haven’t read any spoilers. Good luck and hopefully happy viewing if you choose to watch them. By the way currently we’re on the third season (which you might have gathered from above ) .

  3. I so wish the networks were as courteous as this site. Foxtel iQ often fails to resume series links properly and it is a pain in the a*se to troll the listings. GO! website acts as if Series 3 hasn’t even started. I hope they read these comments. I truly believe they don’t care if anyone watches their channel.

  4. I started to watch this when it came first came out but i didnt get to see all the shows o ill wait for the dvd , unless its out and be happy to revisit them. It has its merits this show.

You’re quite welcome Jeff. Brickbats to the [ir] responsible loser network in Aus for its lack of support

Series 4 can’t wait, series 3 wraps in five days 01APR11 with a blockbuster cliff hanger. Oh woe!

  6. great news….though I have to confess that while i’m thoroughly enjoying the alternate-universe being fleshed out, I fear the “soapie” side of getting too much dominance?

  7. Excellent news altho’ I still don’t understand why GO! needs to wait until May, since the US is back on 15 April after only a 2 week gap and, as of tomorrow morning, will be 3 eps ahead.

@MuchoTB – since late Feb when you lobbed in here, the increasing number of your ill-informed snarky comments have become irritating. Are you really incapable of thinking of a show worse than “Fringe”? Can you really not see that the writing is almost as good as that of “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad”?

For me, you lost any prospect of gaining credibility when you said “Hawaii 5-0 is ace, more people should really be watching.” Until very recently I have been watching and it is getting exactly the ratings it deserves. The lazy writing and cartoon characters are not even close to being as good as “Fringe”.

Of course, that is just my opinion and you are welcome to not “get some taste”.

  8. Yes! Thank you. 🙂 That is a pleasant surprise since I’ve foolishly been looking at the ratings in the U.S. and have been fearing the worst.

On the early May thing for Australia do they know that Season 3 ends early in the U.S. on May 6? That said I’m not as worried because at least we have a date. Again thank you to you David and whomever your contact is. 🙂

  9. Excellent news! I really thought the show was going to be cancelled, and am delighted that the best sci-fi show currently on TV will live for another season.

  10. Richo, quit trolling.

Jerome, 20th Century Fox produces shows that air on networks other than FBC. NBC’s ordered five pilots from 20th (including Playboy), and ABC’s ordered two. And Fox 21 and Fox TV Studios also have pilots going at various cable channels.

  11. Good news! Just bummer on having to seriously wait for May for GO! to start airing Fringe again? Seriously thought it was only off for a little bit.

  12. Ten would be upset by this with X factor coming to fox expected to take up 3 hours. And kitchen nightmares also confirmed to be continuing with a fall season Ten will probably not be getting any new dramas from the 20th output deal. Considering what they are airing at the moment they really need them.

  13. @MuchoTB – well then don’t watch it and allow those who do like it to enjoy the show. Mad Men and Breaking Bad might be good show (yes I watch them) but I also like my scifi.
