Report: Natalie Bassingthwaighte joining The X Factor

Natalie Bassingthwaighte will replace judge Natalie Imbruglia, says one media report.

Former So You Think You Can Dance host Natalie Bassingthwaighte will replace Natalie Imbruglia on The X Factor according to one report today.

“I’ve definitely heard Nat Bass’s name mentioned,” Jacobz told News Limited on Tuesday night.

“I know a decision has definitely been made because I walked past our producer this morning and said ‘Do you know who it is?’ And he said ‘Yup’ and smiled and walked away.”

An exit by Imbruglia would follow that of Kyle Sandilands. If it’s true it could potentially impact on a Ronan Keating decision. Guy Sebastian is considered the most likely of the four to return.

Bassingthwaighte has had a strong CV in music theatre prior to her TV acting and presenting.

Seven refused to confirm the talk yesterday.

  1. Nat is actually a really good choice, because she had a fairly extensive and praised theatre career before she joined neighbours… And love or hate her music, having an artist with a number-one album under her belt (1000 Stars) as well as a record which went 4X Platinum here in Australia with over 280,000 copies sold (Here Come The Drums) can only be a good thing. She has extensive, Recent, experience – Sure, Imbruglia has a lot of experience too, but she hasn’t been able to convert anything of her own into a major hit recently. Bassingthwaighte is more tuned into the market of ‘now’ in my opinion.

  2. @Dicko – well spotted and amusingly dealt with!
Plus I’m sure the real Sheryl Crowe would rather stab herself in the eye than have anything at all to do with xfactor.

  3. This is an interesting decision. I will be interested in seeing how this pans out. I wonder who will replace Kyle though. I will not be surprised when we finally get to see the judging lineup and if Natalie Imbruglia is not there it will be because she resides in London, the travel is quite harsh so it is understandable.

  4. The original panel was great – don’t ruin it with Natalie Bassingthwaite. Her greatest claim to fame has been Neighbours and Rogue Traders – not particularly gripping, either endeavour.

At least get Mel B so there’s some variety in the panel

  5. @Steven guy: The only flaw in your plan to rotate reality shows is that every yuppy on Big Brother is Talentless… How about some fresh ideas without the overkill.

  6. @johnson, I don’t think host to judge is a downgrade either, and the producers probably agree if a pay packet is anything to go by. Judging the x factor made people like danii minogue and Cheryl Crowe world famous but I doubt many people would even know the name of the host of x factor UK.

SYTYCD to X factor is an upgrade in itself as well.

  7. @Johnson: how’s it a downgrade? If anything, it’s an upgrade!
Anyway, happy to have Nat Bass on board, but I hope Imbruglia sticks around cos I was a fan of her last year, and what possible reason could she have for not wanting to do it again? They clearly get paid heaps to do it and it’s not as if she has much of a music career taking up her time is it?
I keep hearing that Ronan is the only one onboard yet and that Guy has not committed yet… Clearly it needs to be finalized very soon for the 2nd round of auditions!

  8. Reality shows are doomed here because we don’t have the talent to maintain them on a yearly basis. Rotate the shows to two of the format a year so we don’t get bored with them. They all become tired eventually because of the overkill of the networks, MC will start to slide soon.

Year 1. Big Brother & Dancing With The Stars
Year 2. Australian Idol & So you Think You Can Dance
    Year 3. Master Chef & X-factor
Etc, etc, etc, then start again…………….

  9. the show is still young and fresh. a change in judges is not needed at the moment. i agree with kyle leaving as he has not reason to be a judge on a music talent show as he has not connections to music (as in singing) like the other four judges did.

they didn’t need to get rid of nat or ronan. i mean, come on ch 7. do u really think changing the judges up will make the show popular. if u keep it the same for some time it will gain a following. if u change it every year it wont make people come back.
