Hollywood actress Jane Russell, best known for her films Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and The Outlaw, has died aged 89.
She died at home in Santa Monica of of a respiratory-related illness.
Russell was one of Hollywood’s leading sex symbols of the 1940s and 1950s films, discovered by Howard Hughes who cast her in The Outlaw.
She would go on to appear opposite such leading stars as Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and Marilyn Monroe.
When her career slowed in the 1960s she began making TV appearances including Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse, Death Valley Days, The Red Skelton Show, and The Yellow Rose. Her last series acting role was 1986’s Hunter.
Until her health began to decline a few weeks ago she remained active working for various causes.

Another great of the golden age of hollywood gone,very sad but she lived a long life and was active until near the end very lucky for a woman of 89.Loved her in the classic with Marilyn. She was a great beauty.RIP Jane.
