ABC2 rebrands Kids programming

‘ABC For Kids on 2’ is to be simply known as 'ABC 4 Kids.'

The ABC has launched a new logo for its kids programming on ABC2.

Previously known as ‘ABC For Kids on 2’ it is to be simply known as ‘ABC 4 Kids.’

From May 2nd the broadcaster will extend preschool hours on ABC2 from 6am to 7pm daily. ABC News Breakfast will also switch to ABC1.

ABC TV’s Head of Marketing and Promotions, Diana Costantini said, “The ABC TV channels have recently undergone a rebrand across the board and ABC 4 Kids completes the picture with a new logo and fresh look and feel.

“The logo has a visual relationship with the highly successful ABC3 brand but at the same time, we’ve created real definition. In fact, it’s a cheeky little logo that will certainly have strong appeal for our preschool audiences.”

ABC TV’s Controller of Children’s Television Tim Brooke-Hunt said “The new ABC 4 Kids logo allows our audience to easily locate their favourite ABC TV preschool content on one channel and online. So from May 2 if you are under the age of 5, ABC 4 Kids is the channel for you. ABC3 will continue to air 15 hours of programs a day for those over 5 years old.”

Programming on ABC3 remains unchanged.

  1. Why ABC2 shows children’s shows at all has me puzzled. During the day there are three ABC channels dedicated to children’s programs. ABC2 should be used more for timeshift programs and maybe some older programs.

  2. Has anyone considered that some forgotten Australians don’t go digital for a couple more years!!!!! What do our children watch? Thanks ABC.

  3. ABC 4 kids on 2. It’s fun for me and fun for you. Just a little rhyme to help you people struggling to work this one out. My 2.5 year old daughter has got her head around it. It’s a good thing some of you people don’t have foxtel, i think it is on channel 126 there. This channel is great for kids. Digital TV rocks….

  4. What is the point of ABC 3 showing things suitable for their target audience given most of them are either at school or at work and most of the offerings are aimed at teens.
I watched half these shows when ABC 1 had them and I am not even a teenager anymore only because of the crappy game shows over at 7 and 9(There is only so much Eddie McGuire or Andrew O’Keefe one can take before they really get fed up)

  5. To be honest, I think the ABC should look at running 5 channels in a method more akin to the UK. Unfortunately because our digital tv standards are less than rigorous, it would probably be impractical to run nothing for an LCN, as it may cause some Set Top boxes to implode — instead I think they should run

    2 – ABC1
    22 – ABC2
    23 – ABC3
    24 – News 24
204 – ABC4Kids – unless they can convince Freeview and the Government to allow them LCN4

From 6am – 7pm while ABC4Kids runs, ABC2 runs a very low quality graphic – perhaps it could carry DiG instead of that being a separate channel.

From 7pm – 6am ABC2 runs with ABC4Kids carrying a low quality graphic, again perhaps carrying DiG. I’d love to see ABC2 run as normal till 2am or whatever, and fill in the other 4 hours with Rage or something…

  7. The ABC 3 Line-up makes little sense at all except for the evening shows given most of the people watching it are at school or work during the day. Also what gives with the almost every night 8:30pm Degrassi Next Generation I am aware some parents would prefer them to watch educational content like that over a home grown Australian Soap but why can’t they put it on say 30 minutes to an hour after 7’s Home and Away or 11’s Neighbours given neither of them offers a US or Canadian Teen Drama Alternative(Winners and Losers is Australian and doesn’t quite count here)
