Andrew Bolt in talks with TEN

Controversial News Limited columnist Andrew Bolt is in talks with TEN about a new on-air role.

Controversial News Limited columnist Andrew Bolt is in talks with TEN about a new on-air role, according to The Australian.

Bolt, who already appears occasionally on The 7PM Project as well as ABC’s Q & A and more regularly on Insiders, may have to leave the latter if a new role conflicts.

On yesterday’s ABC programme he told viewers, “It’s nearly 10 years that we’ve been on air and I’ve come to really appreciate and rely on the support I’ve got. I love ABC viewers, thank you very much.”

But Bolt is still booked in for an appearance in three weeks’ time.

An ABC Spokesperson told TV Tonight, “He appears on the program from time to time, and will continue to do so until such time as any other media commitments he has rule him out.”

Where Bolt could finish up isn’t yet clear: The 7PM Project (there isn’t much room to expand his current role), 6:30 with George Negus (unlikely to accommodate two opinions) or TEN News (it’s possible it could add an editorial segment). There is also Sunday morning’s Meet the Press (an Insiders rival) or a potential new programme.

Bolt is currently appearing in a high-profile litigation case being conducted under claims he has breached the Racial Discrimination Act.

  1. I now avoid the 7pm Project because I don’t want to watch hate-spewing extremists being given airtime. Ie – Andrew Bolt & Steve Price.

They’re both vicious and venomous; sometimes towards groups and people who can least afford it.

Channel 10, don’t give Bolt a platform. We don’t need more of his bile.

  2. If Bolt does this show they need to think hard about the format as doing anything like what he does on MTR where he and Price nod in agreement on everything just won’t work. He needs to have someone from the left challenging him to make it interesting.

  3. I have trouble stomaching him in small doses on Today or 7pm or Insiders. He hogs enough air time. I respect that people have different views, but he, like Gerard Henderson and Piers Akerman never disclose their liberal leanings. I find him close to insufferable, except when a David Marr or Charlie Pickering take him to task on a view. Get rid of Steve Price and install Bolt on 7pm Tuesdays, and i will find something else to watch switching back to Kitty Flanagan and her special brand of nuttyness. Better still give him a show 5am Sunday mornings!

  4. It’s so depressing that an unabashed press shock jock like Bolt is even being considered for a bigger on-air role. He’s such a divisive influence on any subject.
Just one more step in this direction and TV’s sad slide to the dark side will be complete.

  5. I saw the end of yesterday’s Insiders & I thought his little statement was to do with his defamation case currently before the courts. I swear I almost saw a tear drop form too. Ten years is a long time in television. Like most here, I don’t agree with him much, but he always made Insiders fun to watch.

  6. Well we’ve seen just how successful MTR have been in Melbourne. I turn off 7pm when Price or Bolt are on and I imagine a lot of other people do the same. I can’t see him working on television. He may be Australia’s most widely read columnist but let’s be honest most people buy the herald-sun for the sport.

  7. “Bolt is currently appearing in a high-profile litigation case being conducted under claims he has breached the Racial Discrimination Act (tickets from Ticketmaster).”

  8. Words fail me. Actually, no they don’t.

Please don’t give anymore airtime to this right wing lunatic who wouldn’t know a ‘fact’ if it jumped up and bit him!

  9. Its not that there is no room. Its the fact that the FTA networks do not want a right wing loud mouth to alienate there viewers and sponsors for fear of loosing them. America has many left wing commentators with there own shows but they are mainly on cable. There are non on the networks like CBS ABC & NBC because it would most likely damage there core audience. I would expect Bolt to find his way on pay tv just like Paul Murray.

  10. As there is currently a significant legal dispute between The Board of Control for Cricket in India (which owns and controls the commercial rights in the Indian Premier League) and the company through which Network Ten secured the Australian broadcast rights, Network Ten has decided Not to broadcast the IPL.

The matter is currently before the Court in India so we will not be making any further comments at this time.
