Former TEN CEO resigns from Board

More changes on the TEN board as former CEO Peter Viner calls it quits.

More changes on the TEN board….

Peter Viner will resign as a Director of the Company from May 1st. He was Chief Executive Officer TEN from 1993 to 1997 and a Board Director from 1998.

TEN Holdings Chairman Brian Long thanked Viner, saying, “During his term as CEO, Peter steered the TEN television business to financial stability and successfully repositioned it, forging its distinct reputation as a bold and innovative programmer.

“As a Director, he has provided valuable governance and guidance for the Company, from its 1998 stock exchange listing and throughout its continued development as a leading Australian media business.”

Viner previously held senior positions with Canwest Global Communications Corp.

  1. And while we’re at it…to George Negus…it’s still not late to preserve what’s left of your hard earned journalistic integrity, do what Peter Viner did and leave now. ABC News 24 awaits you when you get there. Don’t let that bastard Lachlan Murdoch and those idiots from Network Ten current affairs turn your show into another Today Tonight/ACA clone. Leave George! Resign now! Seek out News 24!

PS. Does George Negus have an email so I can convince him to leave Ten?

  2. When Canwest was the majority owner Ten Network had more freedom to move and be more innovative, hense starting a 24 hr sports channel. Now the situation is more different a lot more emhasis placed on profits then on innovation. It is certainly an end of a era at the company the faces who were there are no longer there. The company is now being run by rivals who want to turn the network into a zombie simmilar to the other 2 networks. What dont understand is why isnt the ACCC or ACMA doing something to stop this or at least make their presence felt. The only conclusion i can come up with is that they cant do anything because of the weak laws which govern media ownership or cross media ownership.

  3. More questions than answers once again….. So as it currently stands, TEN have:
    * an acting CEO with no TV experience
    * an entire board with no TV experience (Bruce Gordon via a proxy offsets this somewhat)
    * Murdoch and Packer making changes that certainly assist Fox Sports
    * I hear they are dropping the HD from ONE HD – given Foxtel is now the only place with an emphasis on HD content (even though ONE have said they will still show some HD content), another sign of Packer and Murdoch perhaps looking after their other investments?

  4. Josh – I guess Gina Rinehard and Lachlan Murdoch count for nil? Not to mention the CEO-in-waiting James Warburton.
Mr Viner has been on the Ten board since 1998. He had been chief executive of The Ten Group Pty Ltd from 1993 to 1997.
Mr Viner also had held senior executive positions during a 25-year career with Ten’s former owner, Canwest Global Communications Corp.
Canwest was Ten’s majority owner until 2009, when the Canadian media company sold its 50.06 per cent stake for about $680 million.
He’s from the old Canwest days, so guess he’ll return to Canada. 18 years at the helm of TEN. A good run.
Incidentally, he’s aged 68, so guess the gargantuous superannuation cheque is looking irresistable too.

  5. How many more people are going to resign from TEN? If it gets any worse we could possibly only have two commercial TV networks and that won’t be good!
