Logie nod for Chrissie Swan brings out the knives

There was quite a reaction to Chrissie Swan's Gold Logie nod amongst the industry gathered at last week's nominee announcement.

More details have emerged on industry reaction to Chrissie Swan’s nomination for a Gold Logie.

Last week Eddie McGuire criticised the Logies voting when he questioned her nomination over top rating stars such as Matt Preston. Logies publisher Peter Holder hit back at McGuire and issued a statement on voting procedures.

Today The Australian recounts some reactions at the Green Room last Sunday when nominees were announced.

Adam Hills was asked not to mention Swan on air when interviewed during A Current Affair (Sunday). Nine preferred to focus on its own Gold nominee, Karl Stefanovic, who was hosting ACA.

ACA reporter Brady Halls did acknowledge all 6 nominees in an interview with TV Week editor Emma Nolan, including lots of gushing comments live to Stefanovic.

A producer organising coverage for Kerri-Anne was also told Swan was not to be included -no surprise given The Circle is competition.

By Monday morning Kennerley did acknowledge Swan’s win on her programme.

But raining on Swan’s parade may yet backfire. Anybody who has ever voted for Big Brother knows if you unfairly put someone in the spotlight, they become the underdog and the audience votes twice as much to get them over the line.

Swan remains humble over her nomination, telling TV Week, “It’s a bit of fun and I think if everyone knew what the outcome was going to be every year, how boring would that be?”

One industry source told TV Tonight the nomination for Swan was terrific but it was disappointing some comments had taken the shine off her moment.

  1. If anyone watched the circle every morning they would understand why she go the nom! She is fantastic at her job! and i would rather see a new person up for gold then the ones we saw the yr before.

  2. Nodding profusely….
But let’s not go too far. All this Stefanovic bashing is getting a bit much… after all… he is fluent in more than six million forms of communication.

  3. Would the whole world lighten up? It’s the Gold Logie, not the Prime Ministership. Ratings and Logies nominations haven’t been correlated for a longtime and Rove’s massive collection alone is evidence enough.
Either you care about the Logies or not. If you care you should vote. If you don’t vote, don’t lament the outcomes.

  4. Isn’t the real issue here the battle between the networks, not the individuals involved. Ten is at Nine’s gates, ready to take over the No.2 spot, so Nine will do anything to try and take away their kudos. Like their programming strategy, Nine has lost the plot – they still think they are the lords of the manor, when they’re really close to becoming workhouse boys!

  5. I think people have really underestimated the fact people may only tune into the Circle every now and again when they have a day off but when they see her name listed against people they may not feel too fondly about (especially now it is online and open to so many more) that they’ll go for the one they think is lovely. May not watch her every day or even at all but they know her and she is simply preferred over the others listed.

  6. Chrissie got so far on big brother and has done well since because she’s got integrity. Which is more than can be said for the game playing tools. I hope she wins.

  7. It’s the Logies, for pity’s sake. Actual talent rarely comes into the equation – the “most popular” at the front of the big categories is the ginormous hint.

  8. I cannot believe Nine’s and Eddies bad sportsmanship towards Chrissie. Chrissie wouldn’t have made the short-list for gold if people didn’t vote for her to be there. This has made me so angry, I can only imagine how Chrissie must be feeling. I hope she wins now, but i’m worried the knives will go deeper if she does. Grow up Eddie, you’ll never be the nominated for gold, is that the real problem ?

  9. I think they have all underestimated the viewers love of swan. It’s the gold logie.. not an acting nod.
A much better candidate than karl for god’s sake! Adam is much deserving too…

  10. Is anyone really surprised by the vitriol being poured on Swan’s out-of-left field nomination? The television industry is about as hyper egotistical and self-absorbed as it gets, so when red hot flaming egomaniacs get their noses collectively put out of joint, this is the sort of petty, unedifying scene that results.

  11. Eddie jealous much? There’s always talk about the Logies being insignificant by many people including those in the industry, the public, comedians and even nominees. For something so “insignificant” this nomination has caused quite a stir and brought out a lot of nastiness. Isn’t the Gold Logie for popularity? If she’s not popular she won’t get any votes. The Logies are what they are. People need to lighten up. After all it’s insignificant isn’t it?

  12. Poor Chrissie! She doesn’t deserve all these comments. To get the likes of Eddie McGuire questioning her nomination is horrible. I hope she does win, she’s great to watch on The Circle and deserves the Gold Logies.

  13. Some people just don’t get the fact that the gold logie is for ‘Most Popular’ Personality. So it’s a popularity contest not necessarily a measure of outstanding performance. Nine are acting like spoil sports. Good onya Kerri-Anne for being a good sport and being big enough to acknowledge your competitor. You’ve gone up in my books.

  14. If fans can get Ray Meagher all the way to a Gold Logie on his first nomination, the fans can do likewise for Chrissie, an altogether warmer, more real and intelligently funny on screen persona. Any publicity is good publicity….
