Logie nod for Chrissie Swan brings out the knives

There was quite a reaction to Chrissie Swan's Gold Logie nod amongst the industry gathered at last week's nominee announcement.

More details have emerged on industry reaction to Chrissie Swan’s nomination for a Gold Logie.

Last week Eddie McGuire criticised the Logies voting when he questioned her nomination over top rating stars such as Matt Preston. Logies publisher Peter Holder hit back at McGuire and issued a statement on voting procedures.

Today The Australian recounts some reactions at the Green Room last Sunday when nominees were announced.

Adam Hills was asked not to mention Swan on air when interviewed during A Current Affair (Sunday). Nine preferred to focus on its own Gold nominee, Karl Stefanovic, who was hosting ACA.

ACA reporter Brady Halls did acknowledge all 6 nominees in an interview with TV Week editor Emma Nolan, including lots of gushing comments live to Stefanovic.

A producer organising coverage for Kerri-Anne was also told Swan was not to be included -no surprise given The Circle is competition.

By Monday morning Kennerley did acknowledge Swan’s win on her programme.

But raining on Swan’s parade may yet backfire. Anybody who has ever voted for Big Brother knows if you unfairly put someone in the spotlight, they become the underdog and the audience votes twice as much to get them over the line.

Swan remains humble over her nomination, telling TV Week, “It’s a bit of fun and I think if everyone knew what the outcome was going to be every year, how boring would that be?”

One industry source told TV Tonight the nomination for Swan was terrific but it was disappointing some comments had taken the shine off her moment.

  1. I just voted for Chrissie three times and will no doubt vote some more – and all because of this article.

Thank you David for pointing out how pathetic most in the industry are.

  2. @daveinprogress, exactly. The award is for most popular Australian personality. How can an actor playing a fictitious role be considered a “personality’? You raise an excellent point.

  3. whoaaa my second comment…everyone raises fair points….its worse than the oscars…7 and 9 and 10 are hiring people as we speak to man the phone…its worse than a telethon….what about poor old SBS and ABC….or regional TV…if the logies are to celebrate all TV…then surely we wouldnt have just the crew we have here…i dont care who wins…as long as it is deserved…

  4. The Gold Logie is for Most Popular Personality on Television – or that used to be the longhand meaning of the award in the first place. It has somewhat surprised me when actors playing a role ala Rowena in Sons and Daughters and Lisa in Blue Heelers won – as they were not being themselves, so how is that a popular personality – that is why the SIlver Logie exists for Popular Actor and Actress. When I was growing up, entertainers like Bert. Daryl, Graham, Denise were the frequent recipients. So it seems more plausible if that is possible with Logie logic or reason that entertainers like Chrissie or Adam or even KAK and Karl rise to the surface, because to some extent they reveal who they are, sure there is still sometthing of a persona, but more than Asher or Jessica or even Rebecca who is probably as delightful as Julie Rafter – but there is a distinction, and the category could do with that – there are silver Logies galore for actors.

  5. I think it has more to do with a new talent nominee also being nominated for Gold. When has that ever happened?

and just FYI, there was a big voting campaign for Nikki Osborne to be nominated for new talent back when Quizmania was on but TV WEEK and the TV industry didn’t want a late night quiz show host to be nominated.

We will never know if she would have been with the legit votes or not?

  6. Well, this has me voting for Chrissie. I wouldn’t have bothered voting for anyone before reading it. I’ve honestly only seen her on the Jenny Craig ads. But she does seem lovely even on them. I So don’t want Karl to win. Can I also vote for Adam Hills? He’s most deserving, I reckon.

  7. @ ducko – this article illustrates hate for no reason (other than jealousy i suspect), i can despise the rafters girls if there is reason. poor acting and lack of personality – they’re my my reasons.

i hope this “backlash” means more people will vote for chrissie. she has more personality than all the nominees combined.

  8. The prestige of a gold logie plummeted several years ago.

I don’t mind Chrissie, but at times (through radio and The Circle) i’ve found her to be the female Akmal Saleh. In that when she is on to a good thing (be it a joke or topic of conversation) instead of leaving it be, she can over play it.

  9. I don’t care so much that Chrissie Swan was nominated for a Gold – what disappoints me more is that people like Shaun Michallef weren’t, and I think that’s what makes the whole thing a bit off!

  10. wow what a bunch of childish people , carl loves himself , he is a dog hater , he always talks about men, he seems to dwell on men to much making sexy comments
kerry anne is lovely but its out with the old and in with the new i say and the oldys cant take that !!! kerrri is geting boring
as for eddie well i used to admire him but not anymore after his comments, move over kerrie and karl and eddie we have new fresh blood
and if voters vote her its not rigged its what people want , put yourself in crissys shoes , how you would feel if you had comments like that about yourself
everyone starts somewhere , i think you lot have forgotten where you began .
if she wins and i hope she does , she no matter what she says will always have that sour taste and thoughts of what you all said about her , how would you cope
thats just bad sportmanship i have lost all respect for you all go crissy hang ur heads the rest of you
and while iam here aca is geting boring we have switched to chanel 10 at 7pm weeknights now as aca is a current affairs its just a food ,specials show
nothing exciting anymore after watching for years and years
bring back hinch we already have a choice maga zine for that type of thing, lets rename aca to choice affair, whats next

  11. I am one of the few people I know that actually like Eddie, but i’m unimpressed with what he has said about Chrissie’s nomination. For someone that has fronted as many shows as Eddie has, he is not very popular.

  12. More people live in my house then watch The Circle & i don’t care how charismatic & funny you are, you shouldn’t win a Gold Logie for that!

  13. I like Chrissie and love The Circle. But not sure about the Gold nomination. I think I see it as someone who has been outstanding and or long running time with show. But saying that and looking at the other nominees it may not fit them either. Saying all that. Chrissie and The Circle has been very successful in the morning time slot were they could of failed and been taken off air. Maybe this the only chance that some shows can get recognised (by the public who watch them) for the work that they do that people love.

  14. I must say despite me not liking the nomination i prefer Chrissie over Stupidnovic anyday and you know what in a way i hope she wins it and floors them. Then maybe the logies can be shafted from Nine and even the logie voting can be changed to stop this every happening again.
