Sammy & Bella win My Kitchen Rules

Sister act Sammy & Bella Jakubiak have won My Kitchen Rules over housemates Kane & Lee.

Sister act Sammy & Bella Jakubiak have won Seven’s second series of My Kitchen Rules.

The siblings from New South Wales scored 56 points over Kane and Lee’s 52 points.

After a marathon 5 course meal of 100 plates the pair impressed Pete Evans and Manu Fieldel and 4 guest judges to take out the title after 11 weeks of competition.

“We still can’t believe it. It’s been an amazing journey and winning was beyond our wildest dreams,” said Bella.

“It’s an emotional feeling,” added Sammy. “This is the most significant moment of our lives so far.”

Guest judges Karen Martini and Liz Egan both gave the sisters a perfect 10 for their dishes with Tobie Puttock and Guy Grossi scoring 9s.

Victorian housemates Kane and Lee, who landed last in their original group said, “Outside the kitchen, these guys are our friends.

“We’re so proud to see them win.”

For their efforts, Sammy & Bella win the $100,000 prize money.

The second season of Seven’s show has been a runaway hit for the network, repeatedly winning its timeslot and pulling impressive numbers. It has perfectly underwritten Seven’s launch to 2011.

But there has been some comment of the show being a “MasterChef rip-off” -in truth most of the series is closer to Come Dine With Me, yet it still stands up as a well-produced series with a loyal following. A third series is already on the lookout for contestants and will surely follow the Australian Open as part of Seven’s winning start to the TV year.

Sammy & Bella, who quit their jobs in fashion to be on the show, have already started their own food blog, sammyandbella.com and plan on taking a gastronomic tour through Europe later this year.

“Cooking is our life and passion and we want to continue learning and growing,” they said.

  1. I think if it wasn’t so obvious Kane was Only in it to support Lee they might have won it. The girls both wanted to take their dream further. Lee will be going solo from here. All four contestants were worthy finalists though.

  2. @ Brad, now you mention it darl, I didn’t see them either. Maybe they didn’t want to take any more time off work. Did you see Melanie from Tassie saying Sammy and Bella’s rissotto looked like watery rice in a bowl, complimentary to the very end !

  3. Did anyone notice that the 2 police girls from Tassie didn’t appear to be in the audience last night whilst all of the other contestants were? Did they leave under sour circumstances??

  4. @sam, I agree with you that the cutaways when the contestants say that they are certain they are about to be eliminated are tiresome and become white noise after a while. Bear in mind that they are scripted and the contestants are doing what the producers/directors are telling them to do. I’m not a huge fan of them. I don’t mind when they are describing what they did during a challenge, but I dislike the faux “we’re going to go home because of this” nonsense. They do these cutaways on Masterchef as well, it is just an irksome part of the genre.

@Animal, trolling bulletin boards is so passe.

@Mark, very good point. I was most surprised during the judging that no mention was made of her meltdown. I felt certain points would be deducted for her wig out, as Kane and Lee maintained perfect cool at all times in comparison, and it speaks volumes about how a person would handle the stress of a commercial kitchen. On MasterChef, I’m sure they would have taken it into account, but MKR is about the food only, I guess.

  5. I wonder how they kept quiet about the win? Last night’s episode was filmed last year, and they’ve had to be secretive for that long? Surely their family and friends would have an idea they had won if they suddenly quit their previous occupation to pursue a cooking career.

  6. @Neil , youve hit the nail on the head with that comment , i watched every show from the start and even though there were rumours of who won due to the cookbook incident i didn’t watch the show.I just got to a point before it and thought i am over it , there was something missing but if they show it on the weekend i may watch it but ive grown tired and Mason Hell Cat i feel the same way about MasterChef , will tune in but for the first couple of episodes.

  7. Surely food critics and fine diners should judge, not hand picked mates of the hosts, oh that;s right, then the good boring cooks would get through….

  8. must say although i loved the show- i was over bella – couldn’t stand her and her fake calls to the camera over the past 3 weeks how they were sure they were going home every night but knew they had won..then the meltdown in the final….urrrh..go away

  9. Was it just me or was something missing from My Kitchen Rules… I didn’t feel a connection with any of the contestants at all. With no team to really root for it just felt like they were going through the motions. I think its a combination of casting and the way the show was produced. Everything felt like a poor man’s imitation of Masterchef from the judges, contestants, challenges and the confetti in the finale.

  10. I gradually lost interest in this show as the weeks went on until last night when I watched only the final 15 minutes to see who won. The show got more and more boring as it went on and I am glad it’s over. It’s even put a sour taste in my mouth for Masterchef.

  11. Kane and Lee deserved to win. All the evidence pointed to the teams being evenly matched in terms of their menus, their presentation and the quality of the food they produced. The main difference was that Kane and Lee were highly organised and professional, whereas Sammy and Bella were constantly struggling to stay in the game, resulting in Bella’s emotional meltdown. And that’s clearly what swung it for the girls. It won them the “good television” vote and the sympathy vote. Neither Pete nor Manu’s high scores for S&B reflected what they actually said about their menus. And I note that both female judges scored the girls way higher, based on no clear justification. The sisterhood at work.

  12. A very well deserved win by the girls. It was a great finale.

Now I’ll have to get my Boys Weekend DVD out to get me through the Manu withdrawals until DWTS starts.

  13. well done Sammy and Bella. well done Pete and Manu and well done Channel 7! an absolutely wonderful season. will miss the show. Masterchef wont fill the hole in my heart I’m afraid. 🙁

  14. I think it was a strange outcome…Every meal that both teams produced was always deamed excellent by all judges, so surely they should have deducted points from Sammy & Bella because one of them cracked under pressure and cried in a heap on the floor. Seems to me she wouldn’t be able to cope with the pressure of running a hectic resturaunt…Just a thought…..:)

  15. Yay!! As a born n bred Sydneysider I am very proud of the girls. Their cooking talent is extraordinary, it is hard to believe they are only in their 20’s. Kane and Lee are amazing as well. Lee is a gifted cook, I really hope she makes a career in food. I was really touched when Kane said he entered the comp in order to assist Lee in moving out of the retail industry and into the food industry, which is her dream. I got all choked up after he said that. What a top bloke, you can see he really loves his close friend. Really fantastic show last night, very dramatic and nailbiting finish.

  16. Yes, the cook book promo on 7 showing a small photo of the winners was the spoiler. After that it was just a matter of it all unfolding.
