Bolt Report to interview Mark Latham

Andrew Bolt's first guests this Sunday are Tony Abbott, Mark Latham and Michael Kroger.

TEN’s new Sunday morning programme The Bolt Report will premiere this weekend, fronted by News Limited columnist and former Insiders regular, Andrew Bolt.

Guests on the first show are Leader of the Opposition Tony Abbott as well as Mark Latham and Michael Kroger -that’s two Libs and one (ex?) Labor, in case you were counting.

The show, which has already attracted wide comment before it even debuts, is promising to focus on “strong political and social comment in form of opinion commentary, panel discussion and interviews.”

It airs at 10am Sunday on TEN followed by Meet the Press at the new time of 10:30am

  1. About time we need some one to balance the left wing bias from the ABC (ALP properganda machine funded by the taxpayers), good luck Andrew I will be watching

  2. To all you lefties.
If your grown up enough and your brain has developed, you should be able to find the off switch on on your TV and not complain about watching the show.

“People say that he is providing balance to the left wing media.”

The supposed left-wing media seems to consist of the rapidly dwindling Fairfax Media and community radio stations, whereas the conservatives have News Ltd. (the biggest ‘news’ outlet on the planet), talkback radio, and a fair slice of the commercial TV stations.

I saw a recent “exposé” on the refugee situation on telly a while back which consisted of Scott Morrison spouting his views. That’s it. One viewpoint.

Anyone who claims that there’s a left-wing bias in the media is kidding themselves.

  4. Pure Poison keep tabs on Andrew “Southbank jester” Bolt’s more idiotic and extreme ramblings here:

  5. @ David Knox, depends on where you look, I s’pose, but I get the impression that this blog, for example, is hardly representative of the general populace, given the young demographic (as inferred by almost everyone’s otherwise infatuation with Network Ten and now Eleven). Obviously this ain’t Newspoll – just sayin’. (As for other sites I’ve seen, I saw that MediaSpy was generally negative, The Australian was generally positive, and his blog obviously went off in approval).

Also, IMO Andrew Bolt is not deliberately provocative. Sure, News Limited likes to promote him as ‘controversial’, and he is opinionated and right-wing, but it seems to me that he doesn’t seek to deliberately get everyone in a huff – he just has strong views and clearly articulates them.

The thrust of my comment was that this is something different, that will probably appeal to a decent number of people as far as Sunday morning politics shows go (or Sunday arvo, if you’re like me and live outside of the five major capitals). I also wanted to point out that it’s not as if a left-wing perspective is being oppressed (or ever has been for the last, say, decade), even on his show (from what we’ve heard).

@ steveany, I’ll take you on your word re: political perspective, while noting that those who consider themselves ‘balanced’ are often coloured by their own views in such a self-assessment. As I said above, I don’t think he’s a deliberate stirrer or a “bully”, though occasionally a little arrogant towards dissenting callers on MTR. That said, he has nothing on Kerry O’Brien’s hectoring attitude toward guests he disagrees with, and if you want to see rudeness, may I suggest David Marr’s form towards Bolt in this clip from Insiders a few weeks back…

  6. People say that he is providing balance to the left wing media. The only thing that can give his show balance is a bearded Che tshirt wearing, molotov throwing, kill the rich marxist.

  7. Haha man alive this has set the people off. Yes Bolt is a right winger – you don’t have to agree with whatever he says, but the man does research his points quite well and is one of the few people brave enough to question the herd mentality which crops up in politics over various issues.

Frankly compared to the same old same old of Insiders, Laurie Oakes, Mark Riley and his alleged comedy, this could be a breath of fresh air, it just remains to be seen whether Andrew Bolt makes for a good host.

  8. Bolt never allows people who disagree with him to express their disagreement on his blog. Many times I have replied to an argument ,(in a very polite manner) but it is never published.Just replies from sycophants who agree with him and tell him how wonderful and marvellous he is and how horrible the Labor Party and Greens are .His blog is not representative at all of replies to his outlandish statements

  9. @Ouivuwah
With hand on heart I say I am neither a ‘leftie’ nor ‘right wing’.
I actually care little for either party.
I just don’t like antagonistic bullies whatever their political bent, and particularly when they are so clearly a mouthpiece for a manipulating 3rd party.
You, on the other hand, have certainly shown your true colours, so climb down from your high horse.

  10. I won’t be watching even for the car crash factor. I predict his TV show will be about as popular as his radio show on MTR (appalling ratings).

The question will be will the predicted appalling ratings see his show axed? Highly unlikely given Gina “the minimum wage is too high” Rinehart loves the guy. This show to Ten will be like The Australian is to News Ltd they won’t care if it makes a loss but the right will just be hoping it sets their political agenda.

  11. @Tony H. – yeah, me neither. However, with that amount of pugilistic talent in the one room, I would watch if they put a cage around them and only let the winner out.

  12. @ Mickle …Yes ABC Sunday mornings for me also…in fact most of Sunday…not remotely interested in changing.
This does not even slightly intriqued me.

  13. I’ve suspected for a while now that the readers of this site are predominantly lefties – easily confirmed whenever Andrew Bolt is mentioned. Considering Ten also gives George Negus 30min every weeknight – prime-time viewing – to put his own (leftist) spin on the news, I don’t think giving Bolta 30min on a Sunday morning is too much for the self-righteous ALP/Greens/Socialist Alliance voters to squeal about. You even have 30min of Paul Bongiorno agreeing with Michelle Grattan agreeing with whichever other ALP-sympathiser they can find on Ten straight after, so heads won’t explode completely in Newtown (assuming they’re allowed to have televisions there).

Fact – Andrew Bolt is popular, whether you like him or not. Considering the split between the ALP and LNP at the last election was 50-50, and considering every other political show on TV leans left (Insiders balanced? Pull the other one), Ten will probably do quite well by targeting a previously ignored market.

The reason they don’t have any current ALP MPs on first week is probably because they’re too scared – Bolt was asked to leave the studio before Steve Price interviewed Kevin Rudd on MTR1377 one morning last year while he was still PM. Possibly also explains the ridiculously soft interview Negus threw at Gillard in his first 6PM show.

And Mark wallace, care to give us an actual example of when Andrew Bolt has ever yelled at anyone on TV or radio?

  14. Seems to me that the same thing Bolt is getting criticised for is being exhibited by about 23 of the 25 comments so far.

    Glass houses etc etc.

  15. “So, he’s going to interview a Liberal leader, a Liberal powerbroker, and a man who hates Labor and can’t resist attacking it and all its representatives. You’ve got to love the balance there.”

If you insert the word “Labor” in the above where it say’s “Liberal”, then you’d have Q&A.

  16. Don’t worry, the Labor voters you can still watch the ABC and Q & A. It’s about time we had some ‘honest ‘Political commentary on television. Bring it on TEN!
