7PM Project live telly moment twists Ricky Nixon story

17 year old Kim Duthie tells The 7PM Project after her interview that she had just lied on air, adding yet another twist to the saga involving Ricky Nixon.

A 7PM Project interview with Kim Duthie, the 17 year old girl at the centre of the AFL naked photo / sex scandal, has taken another bizarre twist.

Yesterday in a media report Duthie admitted she had actually lied about having sex and taking drugs with former AFL player’s manager Ricky Nixon, 47. It was enough to prompt Nixon into threats to sue the AFL Player’s Association for its investigation.

But last night following an interview on 7PM, Duthie made a frank admission after the interview was over.

She told Dave Hughes, “I can tell already that you know…that everything I just said I lied about.”

Executive Producer, Craig Campbell said, ‘We invited Kim onto The 7PM Project to tell her side of the story. After hearing her comments at the end of the interview, we felt we couldn’t be part of a lie, so after much deliberation, we decided to air the comments she made after the interview concluded.”

Later she claimed she was joking.

Earlier in the day Ricky Nixon told Sunrise he had no deal with Duthie to retract her statement.

“There’s absolutely no deal between her and I whatsoever. Please, give me some respect,” he said.

But he was unable to explain how he ended up in a hotel room in his underwear.

He also appeared on The Footy Show last night. Sam Newman has denied any suggestion he was involved with Duthie.

The Office of Public Prosecutions is still considering if Nixon has a case to answer, but Police chief commissioner Simon Overland has said Duthie could potentially face charges if she made a false statement.

  1. You knw what this girl needs. She needs to sign up for channel 7 worlds strickest parents show. Send her to one of those families and they will sort her out in a flash.

She is the perfect example of someone who needs to be on that show.

  2. Loved both the 7pm and footy show interviews, only for the fact it confirmed to me 100% that both are lying, and the more they talk, the digger the hole they dig.
The girl is playing a deadly game she cannot yet understand, the media is in someway doing the same thing they accused Nixon of in the first place, exploiting a young and clearly unstable teen.
While they have tutt tutted, about Nixon ,do they not realize they are doing exactly the same thing. She can be excused as everyone now knows she is a pathological liar, but a teen non the less, and therefor Adults in this episode should take responsibility to protect her,by not airing her comments and lies.
Ricky Nixon on the other hand is a well versed near 50 yr old man with 30 years media experience who continues to think we are all fools, his classic words of GBH or whatever it’s called ,it’s supposedly some form of drug, now Ricky for a manager that deals with young footballers, has a confessed drug addiction and has been in rehab for 7 weeks,to come out and say that,GBH whatever it is, just defies belief.
How does the normal everyday common person know what GBH is,yet you don’t.
Even when you say someone ,the third person in the room administered you the drug, well tell us Ricky how do you know it was GBH? Presumably you were told when you went to find out why you blacked out and completely can’t remember being in the room with the girl in your undies, yet you can amazingly remember 100% that you dint have sex,or drugs or give the girl alcohol, but nothing else about the night. I know if i was drugged as you claim and they told me it was GBH ,that I would at least seek to find out what it was I was illegally given? But there you were on the footy show, denying you knew anything of the drug.
Maybe would have been a good idea to also have the police try and charge someone the minute or second you found out that someone had drugged you,,,but no,,not you tricky Ricky just deny deny deny . Derryn hinch told one story that sums up nixon. He tried to help a man who had a heart attack,a few days back, tried to resusatate him with mouth to mouth, he asked the wife for her phone number so he could follow up on his progress as he was loaded Into the ambulance.
When he rang the lady she told him her husband had passed away, instead of a sorry to hear that,my condolences or whatever tricky Ricky asked the grieving lady if she could do him a favor ,can you ring channel 7 and 9 and tell them what I did.
    Enough said.

  3. The media need to stop giving this child oxygen, 7pm shouldn’t have had her on in the first place, but i think they did the right thing airing the admission she was lying, as it clearly affected the credibility (I use that term oh so loosely!) of the interview they had just shown!

  4. Bad behaviour by all involved. I cut the girl some slack because there is something very wrong with her. 7PM Project have exploited a sick girl and have finally shown their true colours. Very disappointing. Nixon is absolutely responsible for the position he is now in. He knew the girl was very disturbed as her shenanigans were widely reported and he still had contact with her. I don’t care what she told him or what she consented to he is the adult. The more he shows his face the more foolish he seems. The media is not going to stop reporting this story. The girl, unfortunately will do something else in a few weeks when she realises people are forgetting about her. It’s all very sordid and sad.

  5. Why did even the 7pm project release that footage after pre recording the interview?

They are just as bad in giving the story more oxygen in payng her for the story. I would love to the reason why they released that footage out to the media and who authorised them to do it.

  6. The thing that struck me was after she said how she lied about what she said on the 7pm project and Dave Hughes said we didnt edit anything after saying she said im joking which is another lie.

Ricky Nixon went on the footy show and said they had edited the interview and he believed her when she said she did say im only joking. Seriously Ricky this girl has made up so much stuff about you yet you just believe what she says.

I dont believe him for a second when he says he hasnt had contact with her.

  7. Still kind of weird a grown man who is 48 years old is in his underwear in a hotel room with a 17 year old girl.

You can’t spin that, no matter how much you love football

  8. This person has more than a passing resemblance to a young Schapelle Corby, with similar morals as well.

Just don’t watch is the obvious lesson out of this.

This is becoming the longest 15 minutes ever….
I agree……the media need to stop enabling this child…..
I have not followed this story….and when it came on 7PM last night….I picked up the remote and switched channels….did not go back….so did not see the ending.
Only checked this because I tend to browse all stories on this site…

  10. Qubec says: (I’m looking at you Sam Newman who wouldn’t confirm or deny anything during the day but naturally would on The Footy Show, how dumb does he think we are?).

Of course he is not going to say anything during the day…. The Footy Show wanted this as an exclusive – he was being Smart by not responding…

Sam get’s paid a lot of money to do the Footy Show – Why on earth would he announce it on radio MTR… it was obvious when listening to the interview that he was not going to give any answers. Steve Price was looking for an exclusive, but he did not get it.

  11. I switched channels during the interview. It was just car crash telly. So awkward and disturbing. Turned back to see the last bit and thought why the hell do the media keep giving her coverage. Every thign she has ever said is a lie so when she finally tells the “truth” who the hell would believe her.
And Nixon is just as bad. He’s been a dodgy bloke for a long time, but he’s been behaving like a 16 year old too. He goes on Sunrise and Footy Shwo to tell his story, but when he’s asked to tell the truth he says no. Kind of implies he’s got something to hide.

No matter which way you look at it. He’s 50+, she’s 17. He was in a hotel room with her in nothing but his undies. That’s enough to say he’s got problems. The two deserve each other. Just leave them to drown int heir own mess, and keep them out of the media

  12. I don’t watch the 7pm show, but did see exerpts elsewhere.
I did, however, see The Footy Show last night.
Ricky Nixon appeared on it & answered questions about this whole thing.
Sam Newman denied ever meeting her, & said she’d Never been to his house.
I do actually believe both Ricky & Sam (I’m not a fan of either).
Yes, Ricky Nixon should’ve known better but I think he’s paid a price for that mistake.
This young girl is obviously a compulsive liar who thrives on media attention.
To me she seems like she needs some medical attention.
If that were to happen, could all this just disappear? I hope so. But I doubt it.

  13. That was such riveting TV last night. It was so awkward and uncomfortable to watch but I couldn’t tear my eyes off it…and then came the big twist. That girl came across as so immature and naive, finally showing her real age. Kudos to the presenters, they did a great job asking all the tough questions while still being genuinely concerned for her. She needs to gets some professional help asap and media need to stop feeding this beast of a story.

  14. To stop those monsters 1-2-3,
    Here’s a fresh new way that’s trouble-free,
    It’s got Paul Anka’s guarantee…
    Guarantee void in Tennessee.

Just don’t look! Just don’t look!
Just don’t look! Just don’t look!
Just don’t look! Just don’t look!

  15. @ Steve

You ask Who Cares? Obviously the 923,000 people that watched the 7pm Project last night. Her interview took up half the episode, so if they didn’t care about her they could’ve easily changed the channel.

It’s car crash television at it’s best, in fact the Duthie/St. Kilda/Nixon drama has been better viewing then most Australian television productions this year. In fact, I would love them to turn this into a retrospective TV series at some stage ala Underbelly.
