7PM Project live telly moment twists Ricky Nixon story

17 year old Kim Duthie tells The 7PM Project after her interview that she had just lied on air, adding yet another twist to the saga involving Ricky Nixon.

A 7PM Project interview with Kim Duthie, the 17 year old girl at the centre of the AFL naked photo / sex scandal, has taken another bizarre twist.

Yesterday in a media report Duthie admitted she had actually lied about having sex and taking drugs with former AFL player’s manager Ricky Nixon, 47. It was enough to prompt Nixon into threats to sue the AFL Player’s Association for its investigation.

But last night following an interview on 7PM, Duthie made a frank admission after the interview was over.

She told Dave Hughes, “I can tell already that you know…that everything I just said I lied about.”

Executive Producer, Craig Campbell said, ‘We invited Kim onto The 7PM Project to tell her side of the story. After hearing her comments at the end of the interview, we felt we couldn’t be part of a lie, so after much deliberation, we decided to air the comments she made after the interview concluded.”

Later she claimed she was joking.

Earlier in the day Ricky Nixon told Sunrise he had no deal with Duthie to retract her statement.

“There’s absolutely no deal between her and I whatsoever. Please, give me some respect,” he said.

But he was unable to explain how he ended up in a hotel room in his underwear.

He also appeared on The Footy Show last night. Sam Newman has denied any suggestion he was involved with Duthie.

The Office of Public Prosecutions is still considering if Nixon has a case to answer, but Police chief commissioner Simon Overland has said Duthie could potentially face charges if she made a false statement.

  1. Whether or not you think this story deserves any air time is up for debate, but I thought 7pmproject handled it well. They asked her some straight forward questions, and she struggled to answer them. The hosts could see she was lying. We all could see she was lying. She knew that we all knew she was lying, and she seemed embarrassed with what she was saying. And yet she kept on lying as if someone was forcing her to lie. That extra bit after the interview just confirmed what we already knew.
Personally I thought the interview was great. It gave us a true insight into Kim Duthie, confirming that she really is just a young, immature, lost 17 year old. Watching her, you couldn’t help but feel sorry for her, even though you know she got herself into this mess.

  2. I don’t really giving a crap about Ricky Nixon and this girl. The media coverage on them should really move on. Stop satisfying her crave for attention. If she really was a smart girl and wanted this to go away, she would stop doing interviews, stop talking to the media.

  3. Like the Mark Latham election farce last year, it’d be nice if the media had some scruples about letting obviously mentally ill people humiliate themselves (and their families) on national television. This woman needs treatment, not publicity.

  4. It has been reported that ch10 has admitted the 7pm Project paid for the interview. Anyone know a rough figure. I’m curious, was it a token amount covering out of pocket expenses ( ie taxi, ) Was it on par with what guest host like Steve Vizard would receive, or was it substantially much more.

I would be also interested to know if she has got some form of “management” who are looking after their interests more than their clients.

  5. I didn’t see 7pm last night, but that excerpt leaves me feeling sad and disturbed. I’m torn between this even being a news story anymore (even though I can see an argument that it is), but it just feels shabby and exploitative. It’s clear this young woman seems to feel empowered and in control of what she’s doing, and just as clear that she just isn’t. I wish there was just one person close to her who cared enough to give her some guidance, because she’s continuing to be used by the media whilst believing she’s the one doing the manipulating. I’m concerned about the day she realises what’s happened and hope there are people there to catch her when she falls. That’s on top of the wider group of people who have been impacted by her actions, and have inflicted damage on her. No winners in this at all!

  6. Dear Media,
Please stop giving this girl attention. She is now no longer a news story but an embarrassment on your behalf. She has played you and she can no longer be believed. If you stop giving her attention she will go away. Please stop using her for ratings, it’s tacky (I’m looking at you Sam Newman who wouldn’t confirm or deny anything during the day but naturally would on The Footy Show, how dumb does he think we are?).
    Kind regards,
    Qubec

  7. I think it’s time for the media to leave this girl alone – she doesn’t even know what is true and what is a lie anymore. She is asking for the attention.

The more attention she gets in the media, the longer this will carry on. She needs help and she needs to sincerely apologise for the lives she has ruined!

  8. There is alot of talk about the ethics of the 7pm project. I am pleased they had her on the show, as long they didn’t pay her, which i think hasn’t been confirmed yet.

I’m glad they showed the whole interview, they were clearly showing that they weren’t prepared to be manipulated by this girl and give everything she said air time. It was great tv.

  9. they shouldn’t have even had her on the show. they just wanted to boost ratings by the looks of. the media are the ones that are still giving this story legs. everyone else has moved on. but when she says something, the media think she is telling the truth. she has not once told the truth. so why keep reporting on her

  10. It’s obvious that no-one can believe a word she says. The media should stop feeding her addiction to the spotlight and just stop reporting on this fiasco and especially stop interviewing her and feeding her addiction.

  11. this girl obviously wants attention… and probably isn’t even sure what is true anymore…

why won’t people let this story die already?

  12. Well no-one can believe the girl or Nixon now, but she needs real serious help, she came across last night as a very immature , confused, ADT person, she can never be called to a libel case because she is not a credible witness, so look out AFLPA you will be forking out plenty now to Nixon

  13. I watched 7pmP last night. They were right in showing the post interview part. So Kim was lying about lying about lying. She really needs to seek professional help IMO.

  14. This girl sure knows how to spin the media and they get sucked in every time. The truth of what happened has become largely irrelevant, the big story here is how this 17 year old kid can so expertly manipulate the media.

  15. This girl obviously has serious psychological problems and the media needs to stop giving her attention as it is merely playing into her hands.
