For the first time in its 11 year run, Britain’s Bargain Hunt team, including host Tim Wonnacott and two of his trusty antiques experts, David Barby and Paul Laidlaw, will be travelling to Australia.
They will film five one-hour television specials in Australia in early August to air on The LifeStyle Channel in early 2012.
“Bargain Hunt is such a loved series by loyal LifeStyle Channel viewers and frequently features in our top rating shows each weeknight,” said Nicole Sheffield, General Manager, LifeStyle Channels.
“We are thrilled the team are coming down under and think the relaxed Aussie sensibility will bring a new dimension to the format and introduce a whole new audience to the show. I can’t wait to see what they uncover, what Aussie doesn’t love a bargain!”
Host Tim Wonnacott says, “I cannot express how excited I am to be coming to Australia in August to make the Bargain Hunt Australia specials. How will the shopping go? Does the Australian Auction scene compare favourably with those in Britain? But most importantly will the teams make profits? Whatever the outcome we are sure to have fun!”
Bargain Hunt combines all the excitement of a competition, the fun of shopping for a bargain, the fascination of antiques and the drama of an auction. Bargain Hunt Australia will celebrate the history of Australia and examine the antiques that are in the country and their origins.
In the series, two teams of two contestants – the Red team and the Blue team – are each handed a budget and let loose at an antiques fair. They have just one-hour to trawl the stalls for items that they hope to sell later for a higher price. Each team is assigned an antiques expert to advise and tell them about the items which catch their eye. But expert help is not always enough to curb the amateurs’ enthusiasm for an unwise purchase. The team which makes the most profit (or invariably, the least loss) wins.
The five episodes of Bargain Hunt Australia will form part of series 31 of the program and will screen in the UK on BBC ONE early next year. Now in its eleventh year of production, the series is seen by two million viewers in the UK every weekday. With laughs and valuable lessons along the way, will the Aussie teams find out that it’s not as easy as it looks?
If you would like to apply to be on the Australian specials please go to www.bbc.co.uk/bargainhunt
Bargain Hunt Australia is being produced in association with The LifeStyle Channel.

Anne and I do enjoy your show and would still be very interested in providing any information about Melbourne Victoria. I am currently Vice President of the Melbourne Doulton Club which meets monthly to discuss Doulton doings and other antiques etc.
We are still available if you require a team for your show.

I really enjoy Bargain Hunt. Are you coming to Adelaide?I think Tim is a great host.
I am nowc in my eighties but still ver alert and fit and would really like to take part in an episode in Australia. I watch every day.
A reminder that there is a link in the story to contact Bargain Hunt.
Leaving a comment on a TV blog is not applying for the series. Good luck!
Looking forward to the Aussie recordings – and knowing which markets you will visit – great show. As a place of interest a little town Holbrook NSW is home of the Australian National Pottery Gallery and an absolute delight – $5 entry – if the pottery is certainly heavy and rather clumsy it is still fascinating – and the earlier years of the colony were not easy going. The museum is well appointed and displays very well presented. And my ancestors work is displayed so we were blown away at finding them. Also Holbrook does have the best bakery and pie shop in Australia!
Wow my husband and I are so excited that Tim and his team are coming downunder to do 5 shows here. What a hoot it would be to be on the show as contestants especially as my birthday is 5th August what a great birthday present it would be to be on Bargain Hunt Episodes we are watching at the moment are from 2005 wish we could catch up but thankfully we see no repeats love bargain hunt
I would love to know where the show would be filmed and what markets it will be shown from. I love the show.

My whole family orginal moved to Sydney Australia in 1968. from the U.K., London, Kensington, just behind the Albert Hall. My dad (Victor) who 4 years ago returned from a 10 year voyage around the world on a yacht which he built. would be a great co competitor.
I recall, back in the Sixty’s having had a lots of fun with him spending most Saturdays walking around Portabella Road Markets, serching for little treasure for little money.
I get great enjoyment watching your entertaining and informative show Tim, and it recalls those precious moments in time.
.
Your website does not mentionin which States Bargain Hunt will be fimed? I do hope you will bring you show to Perth, Western Australia, as we in Perth, do miss out on so much compared to the rest of Australia. I have to an absoulte fan for years in both the UK and Australia.
