Crownies: sneak peek

ABC1's new drama follows five young solicitors as they face the pressures and endearing madness of modern single life.

Here’s a scene from ABC’s new legal drama Crownies, produced by Screentime.

Crownies follows five young solicitors “as they face the pressures and endearing madness of modern single life – in a fast paced workplace that highlights the moral dilemmas and big issues facing an apparently civilized society.”

The cast includes Todd Lasance, Hamish Michael, Ella Scott Lynch, Andrea Demetriades, Indiana Evans, Marta Dusseldorp, Lewis Fitz-Gerald, Jerome Ehlers, Jeanette Cronin, Chantelle Jamieson, Peter Kowitz, Chris Morris and Daniel Lissing.

Full Crownies trailer is here.

It begins begin with a feature-length episode at 8:30pm Thursday July 14 on ABC1.

  1. @ Shintaro and Jen 13. Agree Crownies is the worst title I’ve ever heard and agree 22 eps is too many – at the expense of diversity of commissioning. Screentime would have argued economies of scale – but a numerate Head of Drama would not have been hoodwinked by that. 22 hours of a series no-one wants it not good economic management. 22eps. Of this? Really? That’s just silly.

  2. I was looking forward to this, hoping it’s better than the ghastly Bed of Roses, which was beyond terrible, but the other comments don’t give me much reason to hope!
I already was trying to overlook the bogan title: “Crownies”.
Was there ever a worse title?

  3. Like it or not, the ABC should never have commissioned 22 eps., which gobbles up a huge portion of its drama budget for the year. It should have been 6, 8 or even 12 eps. maybe but 22 was always an unacceptably big gamble on a new series, especially one that hopes to make heroes of crown prosecutors. Screentime has also
produced a lot of dull stuff (with a few obvious, notable exceptions) so what this all adds up to is a poor commissioning decision in the first place.

  4. There’s been a lot of buck passing at ABC drama for years now but I think Carole Sklan has to take responsibility for this and for Phyrne Fisher come what may.

  5. Woops. Aus TV does it again. The trailer is all glammed up – even graded with a nice dark vignette, sexy shots and funky music.

Yet the actual episode clip looks bland – bad acting, all mid or 2 shots, flat lighting and camerawork, is overcut and looks the same of Rafters, Offspring, City H……….

I gotta move to the UK I think…….

  6. How can you take seriously a comment about too many ex H&A actors. They have to start somewhere. Some very good actors started off in H&A and Neighbours

  7. A bit harsh!! Daytime soap, appalling script, abominable, factory standard. get real, you’ve just seen 90 seconds not the first episode for gawds sake. Give it a go.

  8. To be fair, I chose that clip for preview not ABC. I usually pick something early on in the episode that doesn’t give too much away as a spoiler and hopefully gains a sense of what the show is.

  9. This looks abominable. What’s with the blonde lawyers constant “I’m acting” looks up and down? If this is the best clip they could muster this going to be a disaster!
