FOX Sports will air live, primetime coverage of the 2011 British Open from Thursday to Sunday.

The 140th British Open begins this Thursday 14 July and FOX Sports will deliver complete coverage of the prestigious major with daily Live broadcasts commencing in prime time. From the opening day to the conclusion of the final round, golf fans will receive more than 37 hours of Live coverage.

FOX Sports’ unparalleled coverage of The British Open will provide up to 10 hours of Live action from each round, including Exclusive hourly highlights of the Australian players’ progress throughout the tournament, ensuring fans keep up to date with all the latest developments from The Royal St George’s course.

This year’s British Open will feature twelve Australians vying for major honours, with rising star Jason Day leading the charge after stamping his credentials as a genuine contender following his second place finish at both the US Open and US Masters this year. Joining him will be fellow countrymen Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy and Robert Allenby – all hoping to be the first Australian to bring home the coveted Claret Jug since Greg Norman in 1993.

FOX Sports’ coverage will also afford golf fans the chance to witness Australia’s next exciting talent compete in his first British Open, after 20-year-old Bryden Macpherson secured his place after winning last month’s British Amateur Championship.

All eyes will be on US Open winner Rory Mcllroy, who will head into the major as firm favourite and Britain’s best prospect of taking out the title. Hot on the young Irishman’s heels will be a host of challengers including Luke Donald, who cemented his World No. 1 position overnight with a four-stroke victory in the Scottish Open, along with AT&T National winnerNick Watney and World No. 5 Steve Stricker who between them will be hoping to break America’smajor championship drought.

Soames Treffry, Director FOX Sports Channels, said FOX Sports will provide Australia’s most comprehensive coverage of the tournament.

“FOX Sports has ensured viewers will see complete coverage of The British Open Live and in HD, with a focus on the Aussie players competing for the year’s third major championship,” he said.

“Not only will we be live on air in prime time for each day of the tournament, but we’ll be the only broadcaster showing the tournament in HD and will be updating fans on the progress of the Australian players with hourly highlights packages during each round,” Mr Treffry said.
