A 61-year-old pedestrian is dead after being hit by a vehicle used for the Cash Cab show in Vancouver.

Produced by Castlewood Productions, the show uses  a van to resemble a taxi, but when people get in they answer trivia questions to win money.

On Saturday night a man was struck by a production vehicle, but died after being taken to hospital.

“It was initially believed that a taxi was the vehicle involved in the incident but subsequent investigation revealed that it was a production vehicle for the movie and television industry made out to resemble a working taxi,” police said in a statement.

The collision happened as the van was being returned to a storage facility.

Castlewood Productions president Andrew Burnstein said in a statement “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his friends and his family. My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle, a member of our technical staff, who is shaken and devastated by this tragic accident, as is our entire team.”

Cash Cab has also been filmed in Australia as Foxtel interstitials.

No charges have been laid in Vancouver.
