Julia Gillard & Tony Abbott become guest hosts on 7PM Project

Update: Julia Gillard will co-host The 7PM Project and the show is also looking for 5 ordinary Aussies to co-host next week.

This week The 7PM Project has invited politicians onto the show, to co-host an entire episode.

Julia Gillard will co-host The 7PM Project on Tuesday night, joining Dave Hughes, Carrie Bickmore and Dr. Andrew Rochford who is filling in for Charlie Pickering.

All week the show is having “Pollie Week” with politicians invited to co-host a nightly episode.

A statement reads, “Some shows think politicians are boring, not us, they really do make Hughesy’s day! In a 7PM Project first, each night a Politician joins us at the desk to co-host the show and the invites are out!”

First co-host tonight is outspoken independent Bob Katter.

On Wednesday night Tony Abbott will take a panel chair, with Greens’ Adam Bandt on Thursday and Julie Bishop on Friday*.

Thursday’s guest is yet to be announced (it really should be Wyatt Roy, aged 20?).

Gillard is also a guest on Q & A tonight.

Check it out at 7pm, obviously, on TEN.

UPDATE: And next week the show is allowing five ordinary Aussies to co-host the show.

To celebrate our second birthday next week (w/c July 18), we’ve put an extra chair at the 7PM Project desk and we’d love you to fill it!

We’re putting out the call for everyday Aussies to share the desk with Carrie, Charlie and Hughesy each night next week.

Whether you’re a cleaner concerned about carbon tax or a grandmother gun ho  (or even gung ho? -DK) for gay marriage, it doesn’t matter who you are, what you do or where you come from – we want you to be a part of our show.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a Project co-host then jump onto www.7pmproject.com.au and tell us all about yourself!

  1. Will pass on Julia the liar tomorrow, but love Bob Katter he talks a lot of sense about ethanol ; also made some excellent comments on the banning of the cattle exports.

  2. I’d love it if Steve Price was on at the same time. She’d get the grilling she deserves, but it will be an ALP love fest if she’s perched between Charlie and Carrie

  3. I loved Bob Katter tonight – a sense of humour I didn’t think he had. He seemed to fit in fine! Hope to see him back on the show again soon.

  4. If you ever want to lower a show’s ratings put a pollie on. You immediately alienate half of your audience and even the partisans often can’t be bothered watching a politician.

  5. After Katter’s performance on Insiders yesterday morning, that’s me out. He was just so boring! Good luck viewers, staying awake through him saying ‘ethanol’ ten times a minute and not engaging in any actual genuine interchange about topics on the table.

  6. : And next week the show is allowing “five ordinary Aussies” to co-host the show..

the current hosts and panel are already pretty ‘ordinary australians’….

  7. Ok so don’t watch Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday then. Got it. Can’t stand Gillard or Abbott. Both parties should have stayed with Rudd and Turnball.

  8. I love this idea!
Well done to the producers for organizing this although i do hope the Carbon Tax is not the only issue addressed. Thursday pick should go to K Rudd since he seems to be a fan of the show. Anyone but Barnaby Joyce. I love the sound of Tuesday… Julia, Kitty Flanagan and no Steve Price. Alas i do expect people will still be tuning into the rubbish that is The Block instead of 7pm… shame
