Renewed: Winners and Losers

Seven has today renewed its drama series Winners & Losers for a second season with all principal actors returning.

Seven has today renewed its drama series Winners & Losers for a second season in 2012.

All principal actors including Melissa Bergland, Virginia Gay, Zoe Tuckwell-Smith and Melanie Vallejo with a supporting will return for the new season, helmed by Seven’s in-house drama team, John Holmes and creator Bevan Lee.

Currently airing on Tuesday nights, the series has averaged 1.36 million viewers thus far.

Creator Bevan Lee said, “I’m delighted we are able to continue exploring the lives of Bec, Frances, Jenny and Sophie in a second series, thanks to the audience embracing our show so enthusiastically.”

“And with the Season One finale set to turn the girls’ world upside down, I’m sure viewers will be eager to see whether the girls’ new relationships and challenges make winners of them – or losers.”

But Seven has not revealed how many episodes have been approved for its second season.

Pre-production for the second series is now underway.

  1. I watch the show, but constantly feel annoyed by Bec’s character (Zoe Tuckwell-Smith).

I’m shocked at how bad an actor she is. At first I thought it was just a settling in phase, but as the show progresses I realise it’s just her.

Seems that others have similar issues with other characters also. Although, I do love the gay guy ;-)….even though he’s overly camp.

  2. I agree! Jenny is so awkward and soooooo frustrating to watch. I’m not one for aussie tv but, I enjoy this show.

Have to agree about the cheap sets – but, does not make or break a show.

  3. At first I wasn’t a big fan of this show, but now I’m hooked and watch it every week. Glad to see it getting decent ratings, and that it’s been renewed for next year. Agree with others saying that Jenny is the worst character… she is… by Far. Followed by Bec. The other 2 are great.

  4. Bad show.

Predictable storylines, cheap looking sets and seriously bad acting.

Australians have no taste. I’m not against Aussie shows but W&L is an embarrassment in 2011.

  5. @daveinprogress – I think Melissa Bergland is a great actress and does an excellent job of portraying an extremely irritating character (i.e. I have no problem with the actress – it’s the character that grates on my nerve). As Kaz pointed out, she was irritating right from the start with her sulking and completely unreasonable expectation that she be given her “fair share” of the winnings. Anyway, it’s still great news that the series has been renewed and I will continue to watch it (and no doubt continue to be annoyed by Jenny, while still appreciating that Melissa Bergland is a very talented actress!). I wonder which show 7 will throw its support behind next year when it comes to the Logies? None of the male actors will garner much attention, but all four female leads will give the PTTR girls a huge run for their money. It will be like the Sons and Daughters/A Country Practice rivarlry of the early to mid-80s all over again 🙂

  6. It’s good seeing Australian audiences embrace another local show. It’s just a shame the show isn’t very good. Hopefully one day one of the major networks will decide take a chance at something on the level of Australian dramas being offered up on Foxtel.

  7. I totally agree with Carta and Sarah H, Jenny is so unlikable! From the first episodes when she wouldn’t participate in the lotto ticket but then demanded her share ( I would have told her to go jump ), she has constantly whinged and moaned her way through each episode.
Bec also borders on annoying, I agree that the actress playing her isn’t exactly fabulous, and it makes her character quite one dimensional and unappealing.
Having said that I do like the show and will continue to watch, to see what happens to the other 2 main characters, Sophie and Frances.

  8. Of course Winners +Losers was to be continued into a 2nd season! The show is a joy to watch and has high production values. I love this show and can see it going on for another 10 seasons!!! Congratulations Channel 7 for a job well done…..(Look and learn Channel 10!!!!!)

  9. The quality of acting could be improved. but agreed it is a watchable and deserving show for another series. I disagree with the anti ‘Jenny’ mob. I think Melissa Bergland will get a Logie nom next year, whereas Melanie and Zoe will probably be overlooked. Bergland adds a point of difference and she has great timing as well as a screen presence. Virginia Gay is my favourite though – great character on screen. The supporting players range from cartoonish to bland. Some tighter direction would improve some of the more hammy performances. It is an achievement to have maintained that average rating though. It hasn’t really lost much if any ground since its debut.

  10. Well done to Channel 7. I don’t watch this show but am very pleased it’s been doing so well and has been renewed. Bring on more Aussie drama!

  11. agree with carta, jenny needs to go or they need to bring in someone to replace her. she is insufferable.

i enjoy frances and sophie’s characters, their storylines are far more entertaining than the other 2. bec has potential (as a character) but the girl who plays her is such a poor actress. she should move to neighbours, she’d fit in well there.

  12. Well its a no brainer that one. Its a great show and the best thing is when PTTR isnt on tuesday nights it replaced by this.

    Cant wait for season 2.

  13. I quite enjoy watching this show, although I find Jenny such a frustrating and annoying character. It’s a shame that she’s the focus of the show – the other three leads are all much more likeable. Even her family is more likeable than she is!

  14. Nice inoffensive show that has succeeded with very little promotion following its massive launch. That is a credit to the show itself. Should be more programs like this. Well done!
