Bumped: The Renovators

TEN just did a switcheroo with The Renovators and Modern Family.

TEN’s problems with The Renovators are getting worse.

Hot on the heels of an audience backlash to programming, TEN has now bumped tonight’s episode from 7:30pm to 8pm.

Modern Family will now air at 7:30pm as part of a switcheroo.

It will repeat the exercise on Thursday, and by the looks of things that’s how it will continue across coming weeks.

Tuesday August 9th:
7:30pm – Modern Family – Brand New Episode S2 Ep19: “The Musical Man” (30m)
8:00pm – The Renovators (30m)

Thursday 11th August 2011:
7:30pm – Modern Family – Rpt S1 Ep19: “Game Changer” (30m)
8:00pm – The Renovators (30m)

Tuesday 16th August 2011:
7:30pm – Modern Family – Brand New Episode S2 Ep20: “Someone To Watch Over Lily” (30m)
8:00pm – The Renovators (30m)

Last night The Renovators pulled 786,000 viewers -third in its slot. After arguably launching the show too early, it’s getting hard not to see TEN’s programming of the expensive show as being anything other than a balls-up of a show that deserved a better launchpad.

Just a week out from the network’s 2012 Programming Launch is also very untimely….

  1. I also missed it because Ten decided to put that reno dog on at a different time.
I like a lot of people switched over at 8 and saw the closing part of MF and thought what a bunch of idiots run 10.
10 is in panic mode with that reno failure.

  2. There was always catch up on 10 an hour or a day later if you feel you missed out on Modern Family or did not know about the schedule change. As for me I was watching four weddings(I can’t help but like watching girlie or family friendly shows on 7 over some of the crap 10 shows between 7:30 and 10:30pm on a Tuesday)

  3. Well I didn’t miss anything because I am on to the networks and have been for a very long time and use the tools available to me in 2011 (TV Tonight, Ice TV, EPG {mine worked} etc etc) to find out what is on each night.

The only thing I will agree with is that the Renovators should not have started during MC. I don’t have a problem with anything else 10 has done.

  4. Like so many I also missed Modern Family due to the late change, so i’m going to vote with my remote control and stop watching the Renovators. I’ve been giving it a go as unlike the Block it’s about creativity and not shopping, but if I have to miss out on MF because of your arrogance 10, then I think it’s only fair that you miss out too, otherwise you’ll keep pulling this crap on us in the future.

I’m just one viewer, but I think there will be many others who will be prepared to do the same.

  5. Add me to the list of people that missed Modern Family last night. What I don’t understand is why Channel 10 has allowed its desperation about the Renovators to damage its other brands. What are they thinking?

  6. It would be ‘nice’ and ‘courteous’ to the viewer, if Ten had updated their EPG to show the change to Modern Family correctly. At least that way their viewers might have had some faint hope of catching the show. What we ended up with, in the broadcast EPG, was The Renovators from 19:30-20:08 and NCIS from 20:08-21:10.

As a result, both my PVR and my HTPC failed to record Modern Family, as they will only find a program if it moves, not if it’s completely missing. Even people watching live would very likely have missed it, come on, who would think to check in case their show had been brought forward in the evening? (particularly with such late notice)

Good going Ten, I’ll source the show elsewhere from now on (and I’ll guarantee you won’t like how). I’m honestly not sure how their programming people thought this would meet with anything less than hostility from their customers.
