Bumped: The Renovators

TEN just did a switcheroo with The Renovators and Modern Family.

TEN’s problems with The Renovators are getting worse.

Hot on the heels of an audience backlash to programming, TEN has now bumped tonight’s episode from 7:30pm to 8pm.

Modern Family will now air at 7:30pm as part of a switcheroo.

It will repeat the exercise on Thursday, and by the looks of things that’s how it will continue across coming weeks.

Tuesday August 9th:
7:30pm – Modern Family – Brand New Episode S2 Ep19: “The Musical Man” (30m)
8:00pm – The Renovators (30m)

Thursday 11th August 2011:
7:30pm – Modern Family – Rpt S1 Ep19: “Game Changer” (30m)
8:00pm – The Renovators (30m)

Tuesday 16th August 2011:
7:30pm – Modern Family – Brand New Episode S2 Ep20: “Someone To Watch Over Lily” (30m)
8:00pm – The Renovators (30m)

Last night The Renovators pulled 786,000 viewers -third in its slot. After arguably launching the show too early, it’s getting hard not to see TEN’s programming of the expensive show as being anything other than a balls-up of a show that deserved a better launchpad.

Just a week out from the network’s 2012 Programming Launch is also very untimely….

  1. Thanks alot TEN. I have been out working all day and got home quite late tonight and had Modern Family set for recording and what did i get? The bloody Renovators. Not happy TEN.

TEN should just swing the axe on it already. Its crap, pathetic and a bit desperate.

  2. They should just get rid of Renovators and give us double Modern Family on Tuesdays.By the way whatever happened to those 90210/OC type shows they used to show us in the last decade at 8:30pm Tuesday Nights. Some of us would prefer a good family friendly show instead of the Crime Hour Ten now shows these days at that hour even if it is largely aimed at the teen or twenty something market and are not violent people.

  3. I missed the first hour of MC finale because of the time change which I was not happy about, then have gradually been getting into Renovators (after turning off from the Block because it followed and the Block clashed with MC). Tonight I am really annoyed, Rebovators on at a different time than advertised and no announcement, had to go online to see what on earth was happening! PS didnt like Renovators sandwiched between the finale of MC, smacks of desperation !!

  4. Clearly Channel 10 knows it’s failed at giving The Renovator’s a launchpad because now it’s stuck in a timeslot with the already developed ‘The Block’ and is now resorting to messing around with its timetabling just to try and either; a) get a higher retention from the higher rating Modern Family and/or b) avoid clashing with ‘The Block’…

Channel 10 should have waited until September to premiere The Renovators. Or atleast 1 week after ‘The Block’ finishes.

  5. David I’m using Windows Media Centre as my PVR and it didn’t record the last two episodes of Masterchef due to having Season final in the name. Bummer. Not Happy Jan!

  6. @natasha Yes, Channel 10 will axe the show after ONE night of subpar ratings (if you can call 800k sub par, considering its pretty much Channel 10’s average excl. Masterchef season..) and considering the huge budget they’ve spent on The Renovators… Yes, they’ll definitely axe the show right now and replace it with re-runs or other shows that will draw Lower ratings…

  7. Ten’s programmers have made a number fundamental errors with the scheduling of The Renovators. It should never have started while MC was still on. In fact, it prob would have been better to defer to Nine while The Block is on and avoid reno-fatigue.

However, the one sure way to kill off an ailing show is to chop and change its timeslot. Worse is when it is on at one time on one day of the week, and then a different time the very next night. A combination of confusion and annoyance will almost certainly see the ratings fall further.

To think that it was only a few months ago when Nine was chucking darts at their programming board and Ten looked like they might have a chance of grabbing the number two spot. However, like a toddler reaching up for the biscuit jar, they’ve fallen off the chair again and pooed their pants.

  8. I use a PVR so dont mind the time change, However, Modern Family did not record because they called it Modern Family *New episode*.

Please stop screwing with the names of shows from one week to the next. The one that ticks me off the most is when you set a series to record and the last episode does not record because they add *Season finale* to the description.

  9. ,,,and everyone was saying the Masterchef move was the dumbest thing this year – I can’t believe they switched the two shows after advertising Modern Family all week. A perfect night of The Block followed by Modern Family was planned, after watching The Block I switched over to Ten only to see The Renovators…too much DIY for one night – Next.

Meanwhile right at the end of The Block Nine cleverly ran a promo saying ‘The Voice is over on GO! right now’,,,pity The Voice went straight to an ad break 20 seconds later – what a missed opportunity!

  10. Not happy. I was looking forward to an episode of modern family only to catch the last 2 minutes. And the networks complain about piracy!

  11. I heard ads on the radio for Modern Family @ 7.30pm but thought it was just Ch 10 being sneaky trying to get ppl to watch the Renovators.

That said, I’m enjoying the Renovators

  12. What is wrong with this world, best show have seen for quite a while, can only come to conclusion most aussies have no class, unless people are pulling each others hair out, people are not happy.
    I love the Renovators

  13. i act really enjoyed the renovators last night it was the house progress reveal and i got a little more insight into the contestants which is good adnd im slowly warming to certain ppl

  14. Also wouldn’t it make more sense for this show to keep a stable timeslot? As in 7:30 every day?

This is just going to confuse viewers, when it was 8:30pm weeknights, then 7:30pm weeknights, and now 7:30 every odd day while 8pm every Tuesday and Thurs?

This is a mess. Just stick to one thing, make it consistent, and maybe the ratings will grow.

  15. I agree with Armchair Analyst. CEO Lachlan Murdoch pulls out of the AFL from 2012 & axes Video Hits after 24 years on tv. He has no idea how to run a network. Lachlan should just resign from TEN & let James Warburton take control.

  16. Renovators and Can of Worms were the 2nd and 3rd top shows in Ten’s demo last night. The ratings also went up massively once the Block finished.

The only real problem with the show is that it started while The Block was still airing, made even worse by having early not-really-important episodes up against the final weeks of The Block, so obviously people interested in both shows will have The Block as the priority.

It’ll all probably end up going very similar in ratings to Masterchef S1.

  17. Panic Stations, there is going to be some major teeth grinding going on at Ten, just a very ugly night in the ratings last night and this is an obvious knee jerk reaction, its only probably going to annoy more people rather than Reno Rescue as I am sure its intended to be
