Bumped: The Renovators

TEN just did a switcheroo with The Renovators and Modern Family.

TEN’s problems with The Renovators are getting worse.

Hot on the heels of an audience backlash to programming, TEN has now bumped tonight’s episode from 7:30pm to 8pm.

Modern Family will now air at 7:30pm as part of a switcheroo.

It will repeat the exercise on Thursday, and by the looks of things that’s how it will continue across coming weeks.

Tuesday August 9th:
7:30pm – Modern Family – Brand New Episode S2 Ep19: “The Musical Man” (30m)
8:00pm – The Renovators (30m)

Thursday 11th August 2011:
7:30pm – Modern Family – Rpt S1 Ep19: “Game Changer” (30m)
8:00pm – The Renovators (30m)

Tuesday 16th August 2011:
7:30pm – Modern Family – Brand New Episode S2 Ep20: “Someone To Watch Over Lily” (30m)
8:00pm – The Renovators (30m)

Last night The Renovators pulled 786,000 viewers -third in its slot. After arguably launching the show too early, it’s getting hard not to see TEN’s programming of the expensive show as being anything other than a balls-up of a show that deserved a better launchpad.

Just a week out from the network’s 2012 Programming Launch is also very untimely….

  1. Network Ten is getting worse by the day. First it was turning One Hd into a stupid channel which doesnt have any identity it certainly is not a blokes channel definetly not a sports channel, then they pull out of the AFL negotiations, then they axe news journalists and recently axe long time music video institution Video Hits. At this rate the network will be worse then a basket case. Infact i think it is safe to say all three of thier channels are crap. I hope James Warburton is going to be paid well because he is going to have his hands full. I dont think i have ever seen a network loose so many viewers so fast.

  2. Isn’t Modern Family continuing after a hiatus because we caught up to what they were showing in the US? That’s the excuse I heard, but if we go straight into s3, won’t the same thing happen again where we see a few episodes and it stops again?! Just so the entire season at once, please, no more stops and start mid way.

  3. channel ten has gine downhill since Lachlan Murdoch took it over…
whatever happened to Good News Week? i remember seeing an ad saying Russel Brand would be on… and that was it after that ep…. it will surprise me if the renovators can keep it going, it looks like one of those shows that will do one season and thats it… just like the hot house…

  4. This change is obviously to avoid having The Renovators and The Block being on at the same time, and with The Block starting half an hour earlier and being more popular at the moment, The Renovators would rate dismally at 7:30pm. But this change should’ve happened earlier, considering the amount of promotion Ten have done for Modern Family for 8pm Tuesdays, and now it’s being moved to 7:30pm?

Ten seem to be have made a lot of dumb decisions lately, most centralising around this show. Many shows at 8:30pm being dumped or bumped for two weeks to start The Renovators earlier, poor ratings for the Masterchef finale by sandwiching The Renovators in the middle, dumping Judge Judy so it can show encores. At the moment, every decision they’ve made for The Renovators has been the wrong one in my opinion.

  5. @ John: By the time we catch up on the “new” episodes of Season 2 in Australia, Season 3 should have started airing in the US. Hopefully TEN will go straight into these new episodes after they catch up.

  6. Why don’t Ch 10 admit defeat and axe the show? Look at these figures…The Block -Mon Nine 1,550,000 407,000 552,000 314,000 131,000 145,000 compared to….The Renovators Mon Ten 786,000 186,000 286,000 133,000 99,000 82,000. I don’t watch either but the figures are there in black and white.

  7. Why are 10 promoting the hell out of Modern Family only to show 4-5 new episdes? Why not show a whole season at once or at half a season at a time? And networks wonder why people have to turned to downloding…

  8. it is a shame that the renovators isnt doing well on the exception of crappy challenges it is a good show last nights was the best so far because it was all about them working on there houses it is so much better than the bogan errr i mean the block they should have held it off untill MC had finished by not doing that and by sandwaching it in between the MC final it has p*ssed off potential viewers i am still watching it

  9. I actually like the renovators. i think it is an interesting concept for a show, but i think chan ten screwed it up by doing that crap with masterchef, because ever since there has been a huge increase in the bitterness towards this show.

  10. Call me slack but when new and old eps of shows are shown within one week, i forget which is which and invariably miss the new one. The same thing happened with the Simpsons.

  11. Last minute switch will bugger up a lot of Modern Family fans who want to see new episodes and rely on printed guides.

Just keep things as they are, Ten. FFS.

  12. Why bump Renovateds when you can axe it? If they keep moving it around like this, it will be inevitable.

And why is TEN showing MF repeats? It is extremely confusing when you want to see new episodes and you don’t know if you’re watching a new episode or a repeat. Just show one season at a time please! It also helps with the flow, even if you’re watching repeats! Learn from your mistakes already TEN and stop being ratings greedy!

  13. A real shame The Renovators is not rating….At least it has some production value, compared to the advertorial program – the Block. The Block is just Junk!!! Renovators can only get better from here! Surely!

  14. Good move. Though its a pity TEN won’t show 2 new episodes of Modern Family. I still think they should of debuted The Renovators after Masterchef had finished.
