Dr. Andrew on breakfast menu

Dr. Andrew Rochford, Kathryn Robinson and Brad McEwan are the latest rumours for a new TEN breakfast show.

More speculation about TEN’s Programming Launch has dashing Dr. Andrew Rochford as a potential co-host of the rumoured new breakfast show.

The Sunday Herald Sun is tipping him to be joined by news presenter Kathryn Robinson and Sports Tonight‘s Brad McEwan.

Rochford, who first appeared in season two of The Block, has been a regular on The 7PM Project, including for hosting duties.

TEN declined to confirm the rumour.

Other names that have been thrown in the mix recently include Sarah Murdoch.

TEN’s 2012 Programming Launch takes place in Sydney on Wednesday night.

  1. I do like the sound of that host combination.. But they should put Sandra Sully in too, she and Brad’s funny little conversations on the Late News are pretty funny 😀

  2. If ten are going to take on sunrise and today, they need at least one big name to host and a point of difference, we need another breakfast show with 4 people around a desk with their coffee mugs and newspapers like we need a hole in the head, if this show happens I think it will look a bit like fox and friends.

  3. Really? Is Australian TV that desperate for talent??? If anyone has listened to the Mix 106.5 breakfast show, there’s a reason why they’re coming second to last in Sydney. Channel 10 really needs to consider getting a little bit of energy in their line up. Rochford is a good looking and smart fella, but that does not mean he’s interesting talent. Learn a lesson from the current breakfast shows on air – it’s natural, relaxed personalities that don’t patronise their viewers with baby talk that do well. Let’s hope Channel Ten gives us a good alternative.

  4. My tiny last point is it seems breakfast show are indeed very lucrative. That’s evident in the reports of Today, which is constantly 2nd to Sunrise, can shell out a reported $100k a year to get Ray Hadley to do a few 5 minute segments a couple of times a week. Crazy..

  5. I must confess I love the idea of waking up to both Dr Dimples and Brad McEwan.. even better if it happened in real life (I’ll leave it there) lol

However I don’t see why they can’t keep Brad on Late News just to give the sports headlines, surely Sandra wouldn’t want to do the entire bulletin on her own. In addition Brad also does Sport for Sydney News at 5. I think someone like Adam Hawse would be a better option

Now if TEN were to go ahead with this breakfast show they would be wise to broadcast out of Melbourne. Just to offer something different to Today and Sunrise who both are out of Sydney. Broadcasting out of Melb does prove to do well for The Circle and 7pm, so guests could have an easy flow to all three shows. They should also consider changing the segment places because 3 breakfast shows all offering News updates at the same time every half hour doesn’t show much diversity.

  6. When does dashing Dr Dimples have any time for his shifts in the ER? I like him very much as tv talent, he has great warmth and presence, and is generous with other panellists, but do we really need another brekkie chat show? If i had my druthers i would take Michael Rowland from ABC, Lisa from Today, and maybe a Chrissie Swan or Kylie Gillies for the lighter material, use that gorgeous Emma the weathergirl from Today and Georgie Gardener for all newsreading. Then i’d be happy! Oh and dashing Dr Dimples to make regular ‘house calls’ on this supersized brekkie show.

  7. I’m all for Ten News launching a breakfast show but shouldnt they be concentrating on their 6-7pm newshour before spreading the department even thinner with a breakfast show?

Unless having a breakfast show is part of the plan to have Ten News brand compete ether with nine and seven

  8. Andrew Rochford is very good on tv, but what will happen to his medical career with such a permanent commitment to tv ? Also Kathryn Robinson has been really good on 7pm Project when filling in for Carrie, I think she would be a great choice for a breakfast show.

  9. Sarah Murdoch, is attractive , but has no dynmaic personality..she is bland, and Brad Mc Ewan is unwatchable..a vey uninspiring presenter..Rochford is a good choice

  10. Rochford is currently doing brekky for Mix 106.5 in Sydney (the show is coming 8/9 out of the commercial stations and 9/14 overall) with Clair Hooper (Good News Week/World) so that would need to finish for this to work. I’m not sure how long his contract is at Mix?

Kath Robinson sounds good for hosting duties – but everyone knows that we want Sandra Sully and Brad McEwan hosting together! Oh, the tension!

  11. Why is Ten intent on adding another breakfast program to an already crowded market? They tried to take on 7 & 9 with their 6pm news and look what happened. This is doomed. Stick to what you know 10. Stop trying to re-invent yourself.
With their news debacle, the failure of The Renovators and now this, I think we will see a lot more job losses at 10 by the end of the year.

  12. Brad and Andrew yes, Kathryn not so much, you need a stronger more out-there personality for a female morning brekky lead, more Chrissie Swan than Melissa Doyle.
Judith Lucy or Kate Langbroek please.

  13. If ten do do a morning show, they should look at tv 3’s Firstline show in New Zealand. This is what ten should be aiming for. Just having a copycat show of Sunrise and Today won’t work (and TV3 in NZ learned that last year).
