Seven has picked up ITV detective drama, Vera, based on the novels by crime writer Ann Cleeves and featuring Brenda Blethyn.
Inspector Stanhope is obsessive about her work and driven by her own demons. If she’s lonely she doesn’t show it and faces the world with caustic wit, guile and courage. Her trusted and long-suffering colleague is Joe Ashworth; he is her right-hand man and surrogate son. Together they approach every new case with unparalleled gusto and professionalism.
The series began in the UK in May and notched up 6.4 million viewers. It has since been renewed for a second season.
“Vera is another example of how British crime dramas continue to strike a chord with audiences around the world,” said ITV Studios’ director of global TV distribution, Tobias de Graaff.

Thursdays is my pick. Seven are failing big time and need something urgently.
I guessing Saturday nights.
Sorry, just noticed you said there will be a second series.
I love BB but I thought it was disappointing. I think having just 4 episodes didn’t allow her time to get into the part. So hopefully there will be more.
Looking forward to this. I have always admired Brenda Blethyn (except when doing a not so great American accent).
