As social media becomes more integral to TV networks, which shows are pulling big numbers with Facebook followers?

Networks are taking more and more notice of the importance of social media with dedicated Facebook pages and plugging Twitter hashtags.
Seven recently appointed former Sunrise boss Adam Boland as Director of Social Media and Strategy.
Over at Nine Social Media Strategy Manager Dianne Draganovic says whilst the need to talk about what’s on TV is not a new phenomenon, social networks have enabled viewers to engage en masse.
“At Nine we’ve been able to leverage the ‘talk-ability’ around our programs to drive both viewer interest and overall audience share, something we’re very proud of,” she says.
Nine is claiming the biggest network page (Nine Facebook 31,000 fans), the biggest multi-channel page (GO! Facebook 59,000 fans), the biggest network News page (Nine News Facebook 73,000 fans), and the biggest network sports page (AFL Footy Show Facebook 235,000 fans).

The FTA guys seem to have forgotten the STV channels.
Biggest Local Network – Channel [V] – 116,000
Biggest International Channel – Discovery 5,765,000
This information is useless unless network executives actually take up the comments which are being made both negative and positive. like Jezza has said its fine to use facebook and other social media to better connect with your audience but if the network executives just ignore the negative but relevant comments on their then this whole excerise is pretty much use less.
Surprised Channel 7 don’t have a page… & I wonder how much Somers Carroll paid for those numbers.. haha (-;
I did not like Facebook…to demanding…took up to much of my time…
Some good things…not enough to make me stay.
More people like Neighbours than watch it. Probably a lot of likes from Brits.
I don’t use Facebook but, really, are people truly likely to “like” the Sunrise page because they may ‘like’ sunrises?? I know there’s a lot of people using Facebook that aren’t that savvy but to me that just sounds ridiculous.
Deleted my account almost 2 months ago, best thing i’ve done in a while.
The Hamish and Andy duo have over 1.4 million fans. Not a single T.V. show I know, just thought I’d point it out.
@buckleup it was originally just the logo for Sunrise the word “Sunrise” and a sun. You have had your page up longer than Today (they took ages to get any social media!) but I still think people do like Sunrises 😉
Sunset has 23,000 fans and thats not even a show!
Our Wilfred page has over 300,000 likes. Sure, most of them are from the US with 10k+ from UK, but still 40k + from Australia. Not sure how we got 1378 in Turkey, but hey, that’s facebook!
Also depends on how much advertising. HHIS always is appearing on my facebook page’s advertisments.
The official Neighbours page (with updates from cast, etc) can actually be seen here: facebook.com/NeighboursOnEleven
Currently has 10,194 likes and isn’t as obvious to find as it has the additional ‘onEleven’ So many would miss the official with updates, news, etc and just be liking/following just the general ‘Neighbours’ which isn’t updated at all.
I agree with Andrew_81. It’s a bit of a reach to think everyone on Facebook is that savvy. 80% of people that use it don’t even understand the privacy settings. And once people ‘like’ something, they rarely ‘unlike’ it, so the figures mean nothing.
Andrew_81 – the profile pic is of kochie and mel so liking it because you like Sunrises? Plus, the page – which i administrate – often gets over 1000 comments and more interactions per day. This level of engagement is rarely equalled by any other TV show’s FB page.
Nine News has almost 80,000 which is quite impressive.
Play School facebook????
Are three year olds critiquing Jemima’s attire and controversial statements????haha
I agree Jezza.
I really enjoy Masterchef facebook, people share recipe hints as well as commiserating over not successfully completing any Adriano Zumbo challenge!!!
I agree with Andrew_81
Beauty and the Geek Australia 147165, Winners and Losers 40945
Shame Playschool is at the bottom of the list when obviously it’s the best TV show ever
Following on from Andrew – fans of the band Rush & The Bee Gees (Spicks & Specks) may also be liking the wrong pages . : )
I don’t believe the numbers for Sunrise, I think people on facebook are liking the page cause they genuinely like actual sunrises (not just the show) and Today is weird because they have to compete with the US page (which people will blindly like) and also the name would be hard to find considering their url is iwakeupwithtotday.
It is all very well the networks taking this route, but do they take onboard the feedback provided? So far I have my doubts given some of the dumb ass decisions made by TV execs.
Tar Australia = 46,889
