Alec Baldwin didn’t snub Emmys over cut gag

Alec Baldwin may have been unhappy about a Murdoch gag being cut from an Emmys routine, but it wasn’t the reason he missed the main event.

Baldwin has said that he couldn’t attend because he had already agreed to go to Tony Bennett’s 85th birthday party in New York City.

“I didn’t skip the Emmys because of [the unaired sketch]. I skipped the Emmys because of this – because I wanted to be here [at Bennett’s party],” he said.

“The Emmys have been in August for the last several years, but they moved to this date and I’d already committed to this.”

And that’s despite being nominated for a Comedy award too.

Baldwin served as host of the Bennett gala. He told reporters he would catch the Emmys “on YouTube tomorrow.”
