Foxtel packages up $2 from November 1st.

A $2 monthly increase will apply to most Foxtel packages from November.

Foxtel is increasing the price of its Value Pack subscription from November 1st.

The Get Started package increases from $1 to $45 while other value packs such as Family, Sports, Movies, Gold, Movie Lovers all increase by $2, along with their HD equivalents.

The three Platinum packs also increase by $2 with $132 to become the new top price for a Platinum HD package.

Add-ons including Kids & Music, Drama & Lifestyle, Knowledge & Adventure, Sports, Showtime Movies, Movie Network (all $16) and HD ($10) will not increase. The iQ remains at $10 per month.

Extra channels including World Movies, Adults Only, SKY Racing etc. will not change. On Demand movies and television will also stay fixed.

Twelve months ago Foxtel  increased the price of its basic package but dropped the price of HD channels, when it introduced new channels.

In emails to subscribers Foxtel advises, “At Foxtel we are committed to providing you with a comprehensive line-up of viewing and delivering new, exciting ways to engage with Foxtel content through great technology. In order to continue that commitment, a small price increase will be incurred from your billing date in November.”

It also indicates new channels launching in the coming months at no additional charge.

Full details of the new pricing costs can be found here.

  1. Foxtel simply have no idea. The market continues to tighten for TV networks and Foxtel in their wisdom decide a price hike is the answer. From my understanding Australia’s Pay TV numbers are abysmal compared to the rest of the world and we are supposedly a country renowned as being in marketing parlance “early adapters”.Australians as TV viewers have rightly turned their backs on Pay TV as it’s just an abject rip off.I believeis Fox barely have a million subscribers that equates to potentially 4 million viewers which is 25% market penetration, this is well below what would be deemed successful by international rule of thumb (USA and UK) of say 80% uptake.I’m a sports fan as well as a documentary junkie and can’t get by without HBO drama’s so I begrudgedly admit I pay for Foxtel but I’m aware that I’m getting royally shafted by a network that is devoid of ideas and relies on subscriber apathy to generate business.

  2. @Bill Gates,

If I have to put up with the joke that is League on my Foxtel, surely you can help pay for my live AFL, all 9 matches of it every week of the season next year. Many thanks also to the “majority of Pay tv viewers in NSW and QLD” who are helping foot the bill for my AFL. Love you guys!

  3. I have never thought Foxtel was good value and I wish they would stop filling my letterbox with their “special offers”. You wont get a cent of my money till I can choose the channels I want and not your packages that are full of channels you dont want.

  4. ofcourse predictable.

foxtel pay for an overpriced sport, then rather then have an extra fee for the AFL channel like last time (you know… the one no one watched) it is subjected it everyone, and everyone else has to foot the bill!

what about the majority of people in NSW and QLD (the two biggest Pay TV Markets in Australia) who have to foot the bill for this dump of a sport????

  5. I knew this would happen and i dont even have Foxtel. This became easily predictable when they paid 550 million dollars for the AFL. So in order to make that money back they will put more ads on the non sport channels and increase fees and charges simple. Doesnt suprise me one bit.

  6. With all the extra channels on FTA now it’s surprising Foxtel would be as stupid as this at a time when they would be begging for susbscribers.

No extra $2 for Foxtel as I’m cancelling my subscription in the next couple of weeks anyway once the NBL season starts on One. Only reason I had Foxtel was for the NBA and doesn’t look like there will be an NBA season now.

    Can’t say I’ll miss it!

  7. Nooooo wayy!!! David! Fx is a Sick Channel Yess Can’t Wait if it comes, but if it doesnt then doesnt matter, hopefully then we can get the CBS or FOX Channels now that would be really sick. oho! lol!

  8. With the proliferation of multichannels, you would think Foxtel would be doing everything to keep subscribers, not turn them off. I just don’t understand why we pay so much for entertainment such as Pay TV and cinema, when the rest of the world gets it far cheaper.

  9. It never ends……was just looking at some of the american pay tv packages…specifically dish network….enough to make you wanna cry lol….really hits home how badly we are getting ripped off.

  10. It irks me that the amount of advertising on channels like UKTV & Lifestyle have also increased over the last year. You can’t have your cake and eat it too Foxtel. I want to pay extra for the pleasure of watching TV commercial free. Otherwise whats the point?

  11. In an update from my post on the Lounge, I have some information for anyone that may be confused about pricing or wording on their upcoming Foxtel email for non IQ people.

The email told me I was on Family iQ – Get Started + Kids & Music + Knowledge & Adventure + Drama & Lifestyle and it will increase by $2 per month. (now $77p/m). I don’t have IQ, so I interpreted the email as them now charging me the same as IQ packages and an increase of $7 not $2 as I currently pay $70p/m.

But after calling them I was told… “Family iQ – Get Started ” is the new name for “Get Started”. If you don’t actually have IQ, they still call it by the new name, but I now pay $72p/m for the package I have as I don’t have the IQ function. ($5 less than IQ people)

They couldn’t tell me what the new channels are as they have not been told themselves. If they do bring anything in, my guess will be just a rehash of the current channels with the same shows repeated more often with more insurance line and citibank commercials, plus the new AFL channels.

I’d really like to see a basic single tuner IQ box for satellite customers who cannot have dual aerial feeds so we can at least record a single program while not home or overnight. No need for it to have on-demand or anything extra.

  12. Foxtel deleted and then blocked me from making comments on thier facebook page when I placed up an IQ problem in hope someone can help. Definately will be ending after this contract term and relying on other sources to get some show fixes.

Seems they dont want anyting negative showing on that page what so ever. Great customer service.
