Rumours abound that Melissa Doyle will exit Sunrise have emerged once more with media reports speculating that she could leave the show as early as January, with a view to more primetime work.
“Breakfast’s a hard gig and Mel’s looking at other options moving forward,” a senior Seven source told The Sunday Telegraph. “Her recent yarn for Sunday Night was great and there’s a few other bits and pieces she’ll be doing.”
This is hardly the first time her exit had been touted. Ultimately, one day it will prove true.
Seven news boss Peter Meakin said Doyle would remain with Sunrise for the foreseeable future but wouldn’t be drawn on long-term plans.
“Sure we want (Doyle) to do the occasional other thing for the network. But she does one story on Sunday Night and suddenly everyone is running around saying it’s a full-time transfer. Well, it’s not.”
The Sunrise co-host renewed her network contract in June, tipped to be worth $700,000 a year.
There were also suggestions that her manager James Erskine had shopped her around to other networks.
But with TEN set to enter the market with Breakfast, stability could be a key factor.
Update: On Twitter Doyle said today: Please don’t believe everything you read! 100% committed to Sunrise. Not planning to go anywhere. See you in the morning. Mel
