Rumours abound that Melissa Doyle will exit Sunrise have emerged once more with media reports speculating that she could leave the show as early as January, with a view to more primetime work.
“Breakfast’s a hard gig and Mel’s looking at other options moving forward,” a senior Seven source told The Sunday Telegraph. “Her recent yarn for Sunday Night was great and there’s a few other bits and pieces she’ll be doing.”
This is hardly the first time her exit had been touted. Ultimately, one day it will prove true.
Seven news boss Peter Meakin said Doyle would remain with Sunrise for the foreseeable future but wouldn’t be drawn on long-term plans.
“Sure we want (Doyle) to do the occasional other thing for the network. But she does one story on Sunday Night and suddenly everyone is running around saying it’s a full-time transfer. Well, it’s not.”
The Sunrise co-host renewed her network contract in June, tipped to be worth $700,000 a year.
There were also suggestions that her manager James Erskine had shopped her around to other networks.
But with TEN set to enter the market with Breakfast, stability could be a key factor.
Update: On Twitter Doyle said today: Please don’t believe everything you read! 100% committed to Sunrise. Not planning to go anywhere. See you in the morning. Mel

Wow the knives are out, are doing it tough in the ratings in 2011
I find that show unwatchable. Everything is a promo, a competition or Hollywood gossip.
Hooray, but please don;t replace her with Natalis(Whitest of whitest teeth) Barr
“Her recent yarn for Sunday Night was great”
Yarn? Great way to describe the efforts of a reporter on what is desired by Seven to be a serious current affair program and this is the problem… there was a time when there was serious, credible journalism taking place on Network television in this country, now it’s all mixed in with each other to the point where it’s just so casual to front a hard hitting News story and the next morning host a bit of fluff segment.
Could you imagine Tracey Curro or Jana Wendt’s work 15 years ago being described as a yarn?
Although, perhaps I am over reacting..
I barely tolerate sunrise. Which is more than I can say with the complete utter garbage on Today. Yet somehow Melbourne and Sydney viewers prefer Today according to the ratings. Karl’s idiotic persona, his OTT blokiness with the unnecessary attention hungry sports autocue reader is completely off putting, as is Lisa’s crooked mouth, Wilkins sleepy eyes-he looks barely awake, and the screaming unnecessary holywoos update is just to much for me to handle.
I would love to see kim watkins in ten’s new breakfast show
What about Grettel Killeen. she was on weekend Sunrise on Saturday. She is actually very smart and funny. She has lots more to offer TV than big Brother. A bit outside the square thinking but don’t rule her out. Love it that she has gone back to black hair.
Gretel would be worth considering for TEN’s new morning show.
Please dont believe what you guys have read in this artical as its not true mel is not leaving the tv show sunrise.
Please TV tonight please becareful what articlas you put on this website
The site files stories from the wider press with regularity. As the story was speculative I added the word “Report” in the headline, as well as clarifying with Melissa Doyle’s later tweet.
Tmorgan, it would be good for a laugh I guess.
Mel can deny all she wants, obviously seven would’ve told her to deny until after TEN’s show starts (even if no-one is watching TEN at the moment).
If Mel was to leave she shouldn’t be replaced by Kylie or Sam. Kylie and Larry make The Morning Show want it is. Sam is brilliant but don’t think she is suited to the weekday hosting. Sam would do good as the newsreader if Natalie
replaced Mel as the host.
I dislike Grant, James Tobin is much better.
She’s not leaving. Its just news limited thinking it has a story again. She has blatently denied it on Twitter and Facebook. I don’t trust News Limited these days with much.
If she is leaving i would love to see Kylie Gilies take the reigns. She was fantastic when she was on the other week.
@Josh S,
Yes we did. And I strongly believe in that more people would watch sunrise if she was there.
Imagine Koche and Brynne together, hosting. An unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. Collision of two worlds. A black hole would form in the sunrise studios and engulf the world!
if Mel does go Nat would be far better in the host chair she’s no nonsense and wouldn’t take koshie’s idiocy better yet kill him off to havent watched sunrise 4 a couple of yrs now as the hosts are immature and sorry all breakfast shows r the same a direct copy of american breakfast telly and besides i wake up with Today!
Mel has gone to twitter denying the claims
She gets $700 000?! …Excuse me while I sob in the corner.
Throw Koshie and Grant Denyer out as well and it might be worth watching Sunrise again.
Jezza, Brynne Edelstein has other plans.
Oh I’m nasty, but come on, we all saw her performance on The Morning Show!
rebecca maddern and anyone but andrew o’keefe and the rest of the same male personalities they trot out for everything they have on the network
Is it possible to find someone younger, maybe a blonde air headed bimbo?
I wouldn’t Like to see Sam as Co-Host, She’s got Weekend Sunrise to do. I recon that maybe Sarah Cummings should come in. Either she co – host or does the news and Nat co – host, although Nat’s good with the news and should stay their. Maybe Kylie Gillie’s would be good. But, she might not be leaving yet.
Yep, that’ll be the end of sunrise. V/O “This is sunrise with Koshie and Sam” *yuck*
Get rid of Koshie! not Mel.
Maybe this is where the new host idea came from. 7 (may) need to replace Mel with a new host.
she should move to ch9 and appear in underbelly
I will believe it when I see it. She may do other things but Seven wouldn’t mess with a winning formula when Ten are launching a similar show. If it does happen I would get Sam in the co-host chair. I love Nat but I think Sam is the better fit.
