TV4 coming to Prime TV viewers

Regional viewers in NSW, Vic and the ACT are getting a channel that will be the "Home of Information, Education, Finance and Shopping."

Not too sure what to make of this Press Release, but it sounds like Prime TV regional viewers in NSW, Vic and the ACT will be getting their very own advertorial / TV shopping style channel.

It says it’s the “Home of Information, Education, Finance and Shopping.” No room for E-n-t-e-r-t-a-i-n-m-e-n-t?

It’s by a group called Brand New Media and there is currently a test ID on Channel 64.

Brand New Media will launch a new regional datacasting service called TV4 for Victoria, ACT and New South Wales this Sunday September 18.

Nicole Cusack, Integration and Marketing Manager for Brand New Media told Mediaweek the station would be broadcast on Channel 64, in partnership with the Prime network.

“We’ll have quite a variety of of programming, from information to short-form entertainment to how-to style shows,” she noted. The channel will be broadcast 24/7 to a potential audience of 4.7 million in over 1.8 million homes.

Brand New Media specialises in the production of content for brands and broadcasters and they have worked with advertisers to put together content for the channel, while other programs have been directly supplied.

One interesting addition is the educational programming from the University of New South Wales who have put together a series, with each episode looking at a different faculty in the university. It will feature not only the different courses on offer but also a guide to student life. “It’s really good for institutes to be on there because they’re all trying to get students from the regional areas into Sydney or Melbourne to study,” said Cusack.

  1. @Maev if you’re in Sydney as your descriptor says then you won’t see TV4 because it is being carried on the digital signal for Prime which, as the article says, is regional. So if you don’t have access to Prime TV then you won’t see TV4.

  2. A bit biased David? The press release you’re quoting says “short-form entertainment “. Not my cup of tea, but people watch The Morning Show and Mornings with Kerri Anne which seems to be the same sort of thing.

  3. I hope Prime can boost there signal abit in some areas as I know a lot of people who have trouble with the digital signal now, so another sub channel might stuff it up more.

  4. If it’s a Datacast Licence channel how will it be able to show the “entertainment” shown on its website?

  5. First thing I thought of when I saw the logo was division 4. They look so much alike. And yes David entertainment might help win some viewers. Just looks like another station I will have to scroll through to get to a station that I want to watch.

  6. Given that Prime (and other regional broadcasters) has set aside chunks of its own airtime for advertorials and home shopping – the assumption being that country folk are more gullible than their city brethen, no doubt – this comes as no surprise. Sounds like it’ll just be spruiking crap and nothing else. Pass.

  7. I know it played merry hell with 7mate on Prime after ch64 was ‘enabled’ here on the Gold Coast. Lipsync issues mostly, but my Topfield was having trouble getting a signal lock on 63 as well. Hope Prime plans to fix that PDQ.

Guess we won’t know what’s on until we get some kind of EPG data coming down. At the moment it’s completely empty (as in utterly absent).

  8. Noticed this when I turned on my Panasonic branded TV last night. It asked me if I wanted to add a new channel, and 64 came up. Not sure if this channel is going to be something I pause to watch changing channels between Sabrina and Friends!

  9. Hmmm, I’ll have to look into that since I live in the ACT.

On a different tact. It’s always stuck me as weird that even though Canberra is the nation’s capital it’s still treated as a regional centre TV wise. We don’t have our own dedicated Nine/Seven/Ten like a state capital does. We barely have our own news programs (Aside from WIN)

I’ve been in the ACT 10 years and it still puzzling and not in a good way.

One final thought… 4.7 million people in 1.8 million homes. Uh Miss Cusack I think you might want to check your math.
