The Love Trap
Most of us have figured out by now, that transferring our life savings into a Nigerian bank account is a mug’s game. We know there’s no royal fortune. No multi-million dollar return. In fact, no hope of ever seeing our money again. Maybe that’s why the men behind those dodgy emails have moved on to scams that are more sophisticated and far more callous. Now they don’t just bankrupt their victims, they break their hearts as well. So we decided to take them on at their own game. We set up a sting of our own and it wasn’t long before the sharks took the bait.

Cliffhanger
What you’re about to see on Sunday night defies belief and the laws of gravity. A young man, clinging to the side of a sheer rock face, a thousand metres up – with no ropes, no harness, nothing to catch his fall. All that’s keeping him from plunging to his death are his toes and finger tips. This madness is called free-soloing and no rock climber in the world does it better than 26-year-old Alex Honnald. Using only his body strength and amazing mental stamina, Alex scales sheer cliff walls as high as the world’s tallest buildings – completely unassisted, simply for the thrill. And if you’re anything like us, just watching this report from American
60 Minutes’ Lara Logan, will have you clinging to the edge of your seat.

Thinking Positive
It wasn’t so long ago, that AIDS was a guaranteed death sentence. And thanks to those confronting ads in the 80s, we all knew it. They weren’t exactly subtle – in fact, they scared the hell out of us. But the shock tactics worked and the rate of HIV infection in Australia plummeted. We thought we had it all under control. That we were playing it safe. But guess what. The infection rate has shot up again. And surprisingly it’s now straight women who are among the most vulnerable.

  1. If the bloke climbing the mountain falls and is out here with us in a wheelchair, pity help him. Australia isn’t anything approaching accessible and it isn’t getting any better.

As old gives way to new builds, we’re supposed to be building a universally accessible country.

Pull the other one… and no one cares two hoots.

I pay full taxes and for what? To be called “disabled”. That’s discrimination, folks.

  2. I am a 50yr old hetrosexual woman who was diagnosed with HIV/Aids & told the virus had been lying dormant for at least 10yrs. I am now healthy & well so the diagnosis is not such an issue anymore. I believe I am an excellent advocate for awareness of HIV/Aids as I don’t fit in the generalised perception of Who can contract HIV. As a previous comment said about bi-sexual men, well let me tell you there is a whole new category of men out there ‘MSM’ these are men who claim to be ‘straight’ but have sex with men? I see that as dangerous and another reason for everyone to be tested and protected. Remember that old addage of the 80’s “if it’s not on then it’s not on”. We as a community who respect the notion of non-judgement or discriminaton should realise that this virus has and will become a pandemic if we choose not to protect ourselves, always when it comes to sexual encounters.
HIV/Aids kills millions of women & men throughout the world, leaves children orphaned and destroys the lives of many more.
    Thanks J

    1. While society has difficulty in understanding bisexuality there will always be those who prefer not to fully disclose their sexuality. This contributes to a lack of communication. Between any two partners the bottom line is trust and openness, and saving abstinence, condoms are the best insurance right now. Good to hear you are healthy.

  3. I feel sorry for roselea And those who are seeking a life long friend and or love but it is clear that you cannot trust anyone when seeking love over the net, nine out of ten are scum ,Im shocked she went straight back on line so this seems to be more of a problem than just heart strings been broken some one help her go through the right agency.

  4. I gave thousands of dollars to a man I fell madly inlove with for months I was walking on cloud nine thinking I had finally met the man of my dreams. After months of chatting and promises etc. I sent money it turns out he is Nigerian and 35 I am 50, my heart has been damaged for good, I shall never trust a man again, since I told him everything, even my deepest thoughts and secrets, he totally exploited my heart.

  5. Hopefully the story on increasing HIV infections will be a wake up call for women, many of whom believe it could never happen to them. There are far more bisexual men out there than anyone realises, and if they’re having unsafe sex with men, and then going home to their female partners and having unsafe sex, it’s a recipe for disaster.
