Nominations were announced today for the 25th Annual ARIA Awards in Sydney.
To be held on November 27th at Sydney’s Allphones Arena, formerly Acer Arena, the nominations were led by Boy & Bear, Drapht and Gotye, with seven nods each.
Amongst the nominees were familiar Australian Idol, The X Factor and Australia’s Got Talent names including Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Justice Crew, Damien Leith and Altiyan Childs.
Chris Lilley was also nominated in the Best Original Soundtrack/Cast/Show Album for Angry Boys.
Best Comedy Release nominees include Adam Hills, Hamish & Andy, Josh Thomas and Tim Minchin.
Best Children’s Album nominees include Dirtgirlworld, Hi-5, Play School and The Wiggles.
But there was no announcement of host or broadcaster today.
With just weeks remaining before the event everybody is asking whether the 25th ceremony will be seen on television or not?

Gotta laught athe the people saying that Gotye and Boy & Bear are ‘unknowns’, they both had number one albums this year, as did Angus & Julia Stone last year. I’m so glad the ARIA Awards are not led by the moronic crap that is played by 2DayFM…I think the Awards would be a perfect fit for ABC2 with maybe a replay on ABC1 as part of Rage…
I would have thought Altiyan Childs would have been nominated for Best Comedy Release
Comedy Release is never televised, is it?
Many of the acts are only known to Triple J listeners, so I can’t see it being a commercial success ?
@ryaeco,Majority of the aria awards FTA viewers would be commercial radio (e.gnova/2dayfm/foxfm/mix) listeners rather than triple j fans.hence why i think this years broacast would be a flop if it was shown on the main FTA netwroks.
Altiyan Childs is nominated for an ARIA. This is why no one cares about the ARIA awards. The broadcasts have been woeful for years now. Australian awards like ARIA’s and Logies are just massive bogan fests. Why can’t we just have classy award nights like the Emmy’s and Grammy’s?
Childs is nominated for Highest Selling Album.
Are you serious? Justice Crew? As in, the *dance* crew that won a talent contest by…not singing?
After last year’s debacle, maybe it’s a good thing if it doesn’t make it to the screen this year!
I think this year’s nomination are a bit more mainstream unlike last year so hopefully someone does pick it up because if it’s anything to go by.. Anything will be better than last years.
Triple J listeners would not consider Boy & Bear, gotye or drapht as ‘unknowns’
As for the awards last year it was a total embarrassment.
I think FTA should air it maybe on eleven or go?
It was rumoured to goto ELEVEN, I’d be keeping my eye on FOX8 or MTV Hits for the following reasons
a> Fox8, Rove LA is airing on that channel and Roving Enterprises has been largely associated with the ARIA Awards for years.
b> MTV Hits, The ARIA Top 50 airs on MTV Hits every weekend.
@VD: most of these artists are unknown because they are not covered by newspapers (apart from The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald), and their songs are rarely played (or not played at all) by major commercial radio stations such as Nova and 2DayFM/Fox FM.
Agree with VD. The nominees at the Arias more recently haven’t been mainstream enough to get the general public interested in the TV broadcasts.
Sad sad sad………… so now I will fondly remember last years awards.
Oooops, no I’m not !
They made the Logies look good last year !
“Amongst the nominees were familiar Australian Idol, The X Factor and Australia’s Got Talent names including Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Justice Crew, Damien Leith and Altiyan Childs.” = nobodies in the music industry
Is “everybody” really asking? I don’t know anyone who really cares.
Ive just had a look at all the nominee list and IMHO it would be pointless doing a live broadcast on free to air. Most of the nominees in the major categories are pretty much unknowns who wouldnt appeal to a broad range of viewers meaning less than substantial ratings.
I predict it’ll be exclusive to Foxtel.
two words for the arias…..Oh Dear.
Foxtel? ABC? SBS?
Perfect for a live multichannel broadcast like 11 or GO! ? And a replay on 9 or Ten. Maybe Fox 8 or Channel V?
