Guy Sebastian looked very sheepish when cameras appeared to catch him on the phone while an X Factor contestant was singing.

Please tell me Guy Sebastian wasn’t on the phone last night while X Factor contestant Christina Parie was singing?
Parie began her number in the audience before making her way down to the stage. When she stepped onto the rear of the the judge’s platforms Sebastian looked like he was on his phone and looked very sheepish has he suddenly dropped it from his ear to pay attention to Parie.
I really hope he was listening to her vocals through an earpiece, but then he didn’t seem to be for any other acts, nor did any of the other judges.
Meanwhile, Sebastian’s comments about contestant Mitchell Calaway being rude to a crew member during rehearsal also drew a lot of criticism on Twitter last night.
“You’ve got to have the right attitude to this competition, you’ve got to be focused and to be honest, not be rude to people and have the work ethic,” he said.
“For you to not learn your lyrics and for you to at times be rude to crew, you really have to pull that in and rein that in because you won’t last long in this competition or this industry if you do that.”
Should he have stuck to the on-stage performance and left the politics for off-camera?
If Callaway is eliminated tonight, expect a reaction…

There’s definitely a phone in his right hand, and you can see nat’s head looking at guy playing with his phone or something, before he puts it away and nat watches christina.
Yeah, I just took it for an ear piece. I used to see the judges have them during Idol. Then as for phones, all the judges have them. It seems the X Factor producers must encourage them to use them as they’re usually tweeting away during the show.
You’re all looking at the wrong hand. Yes, he is holding an ear-piece in his left ear to block out extraneous sound (Christina singing), but you can clearly see what looks like an iPhone in his *right* hand. It is this hand (and the object in it) that he quickly moves onto his lap and under the rim of the table when he notices that he is on camera. He certainly does look a bit sheepish.

In other news, how funny was the purple lipstick that got stuck on Mel B’s teeth?
Only possible explanation? Guy is a Secret Service agent and was speaking into a nano mobile phone hidden in his ridiculous wrist wear. He was protecting Ronan from a right wing anti-facial-stubble clan of protesters disguising themselves as Christina’s mosh mob.
If you look at Guy frame by frame, when he moves his hand down from his ear he isn’t holding a mobile phone – his fingers are pinched together still and nothing is between them.
My guess, looking at the frames before he removes his hand is that he’s adjusting the ear piece firmer into his ear to better hear her vocals for tune. It’s also possible that the judges’ earpieces have individual volume control.
If you look again a little later when there is a wide shot from behind the judges as the contestant is centre stage, he’s again got his hand to his ear.

Very small phone then, considering he was holding it between his thumb and index finger.
Maybe Guy was just being called to pick up some milk on his way home?
I can’t see Mitchell getting voted out tonight as apparently he’s quit…

As for Guy Sebastian being on the phone? Pretty sure that’s an ear-piece.
Mitchell has denied he is quitting via Twitter.
I think it was probably an earpiece too.
As for Guy and the other judges pulling Mitchell up on his attitude, I say good on them. The shy country guy image that he is trying to portray doesn’t fool me. I don’t believe they would even mention his attitude towards the crew if there hadn’t been a significant incident take place. Why has Mitchell got such an attitude anyway, he is karaoke quality, at best.
So Guy was the only one whom knew about Mitchell’s “bad attitude”… sure.
People are taking the word of one random person on twitter who says Mitchell bullied Declan and is a horrible person, despite this information being hearsay and second-hand, and it all being through a “friend of a friend”.
Yet no one else knew about this beforehand.
Yeah – I call doubt on this.
While bullying and bad attitude should be stamped out; so should falsely accusing someone else of such things.
If it’s the first; I’ll be leading the lynch mob on Mitchell. If it’s the second; on Guy.
I just doubt the validity of all this.
At least tell the whole story, and not allude to things Guy. It makes speculation and rumour run amok.

I went to a filming the other week of X-factor, and they were quite strict about audience members using phones during the taping, and point blank said that if you were found using your phone for any reason, calls, texts, updating f
facebook/twitter, or taking photos you would be ejected from the audience.
What was really annoying was that during the taping, Mel B was updating twitter, guy Sebastian was seen making a call, and Ronan was taking photos with his phone, and now guy appears to have been caught on camera using his phone.
Maybe Guy’s “phoning it in”? Not that I’d blame him, since most of the performers are low on talent.
Each judge wears an earphone in one ear during the performances to hear the contestants voices clearer. Guy’s earphone must have fallen out as he moved away from the desk as he turned his chair in the direction of Christina.

Backstage is all part of presentation and your future in the job, they were in their right to say it, guess too it’s out in the open from them and not someone else via twitter.
Three of the judges? Guy is just one judge – and Mel made a comment saying ‘If’ he did that and turned the subject back to the performance. The issue isn’t whether to talk to him – it’s whether to talk about an off-air matter in front of millions of people.
They all wear earpeices David, So I don’t think it’s a phone….
On the Mitchell thing, since we as the audience have nfi what happened it should be let go. Either that or explain it in full!
Hmmmm….If Guy Sebastian was on the phone then really, he has no right to call someone else on their rudness.
I have no doubt that the comments were warranted and that Mitchell’s attitude needs adjustment. I question whether Guy needed to address them publicly! Another question is why didn’t Nat Bass jump in and defend him? Why didn’t he defend himself? Also If his behavior is such an issue why hasn’t it been addressed and what is Nat’s responsibility in all of this?
As much as i am a Guy Sebastian fan, hiis comments to Mitchell were inappropriate. If his attitude had been clocked by viewers while cameras were rolling, it would be fine, but finding things to tear down contestants is the sport that Simon Cowell’s concept seems to encourage. Callaway won’t be the first or last reality performer to be rude to crew or cast. Whether they are 15 or 30 years old, some handle the pressure better than others. The antics of Mel, Ronan et al are probably considerably worse behind the scenes, if their catty comments to each other and the singers are an indication. Mitchell is about as raw as you can get, both talent wise and personality wise – his back story of run ins with authority and issues has already been well mined by the show.
I know nothing about TV production but I would imagine that using a mobile phone on any set, much less a live one is a definite no-no! Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and presume he was having ear piece issues and he was trying to shove it back in!
Its not the fist time guy has been caught with his mobile in his hand, it happened a couple of weeks ago as well.
Clearly, for three of the judges to comment to Calaway about backstage behaviour and attitude something significant occurred. I feel the advice given to him was as important for an aspiring professional as any comment on voice or performance.
Guy is doing his job as a judge as far as calling Mitchell on his bad ‘off air attitude’ to those around him that are there to help and support him. Part of Mitchell’s growth as an artist is to be able to handle pressure and not take this out on his crew, Nat and fellow contestants if things are not going so well for him.
