  1. “Footage of Kochie standing in front of a bank or Roman ruins will not help our understanding of this unfolding crisis one bit.”

    Yes it will. Kochie’s a legend !

  2. What with the strong Aussie dollar and a whole heap of frequent flier points doing nothing, maybe Kochie just wanted to get a head start on his Christmas shopping.

  3. @jonno – we get the magnitude. People are not questioning the importance of relevance of the story, just why Kochie needs to actually go over there.

The reason that camera crews go to capture the pomp and ceremony of a royal wedding, the horror and devastation of a major disaster, or the exaltation and relief of a successful rescue is because there is actually something worth capturing in pictures that adds substantially to audience comprehension.

Footage of Kochie standing in front of a bank or Roman ruins will not help our understanding of this unfolding crisis one bit.

  4. @JohnW- I get what you’re trying to say but in that case why send anyone anywhere. Why did the media go to the Royal wedding, to Christchurch or to Beaconsfield. Why i support 7 is because kochie is a finance journalist and this could be one of the biggest stories of our time. Sounds like you may not get the magnitude of this story.

  5. I dont mind David Koch but yes he can get annoying but lets face it for this sort of story he is the man for it he does have a finance background.

  6. @jonno: I too congratulate 7 for putting some airtime into the Euro crisis. I just don’t see the advantage of doing it from Rome or Athens rather than Martin Place. No doubt Kochie will do some travel segments while he’s studying the ups and downs of the Euro.

  7. @ JohnW, Well if thats the case, the ABC might of well close all there offices all around the world. I am sick of all the negative comments. It’s not costing you or i a single cent. Seven should be congratulated because they are putting the money up in time when networks are cutting back on this type of journalism. Wasn’t it last week we all complained about TEN dumping Negus.

  8. @jonno: what exactly we congratulating 7 for? Kochie could do this equally well from the Martin Place studio in Sydney. It’s a junket. Nothing more. We won’t know any more about the Euro crisis after this special has aired.

  9. While we can all have a joke about this, the fact is that what is going on in Europe could send the whole world into a depression. If Italy goes bust it will be the biggest bankrupcy in history and could have a domino effect around the world. Seven, at least recognises how serious the situation is and should be congratulated.

  10. You have to remember finance is his background before he became a breakfast host.

Im not sure what he could do from over there but hey at least he is contributing to there economy.

  11. I’m sure the Greek and Italian governments will listen closely and take heed of what a not-so-successful businessman/TV presenter from Australia thinks.

    After all, he’s been there!

  12. Yes Australia’s answer to Warren Buffet is gonna make his presence felt. He is so good at international finance that I think he will single handedly resolve the whole Euro crisis and still contribute to Sunrise…what a bloke..

  13. Hah, Nine apparently can’t even afford the jet fuel to get their reporters up in a chopper to provide vision of an unfolding event while Seven sends Kochie halfway around the world to do what he could do equally well in the studio.

  14. Actually, this reminds me of that video that was done earlier in the year, re: Sunrise, Mel & ‘Kochie’ and how “They were there”, “Bringing the Devastation”, in relation to the floods, cyclones, etc.

Implied how they were the herald for all the disasters-

So, I take it the next one is about to happen? ;p

  15. I’m sure that Sunrise is just a rewards program for a select few presenters. Other than for another paid holiday for poor David I can’t really understand the benefit to Ch7 viewers on this issue. But then again he only watches Spanish dancing in Spain, drink Guinness in Ireland etc etc…his stories.
