Denise Drysdale quits The Circle

Updated: "After working non-stop for 52 years, it’s time for me to take a break," says Denise Drysdale.

Denise Drysdale has quit The Circle.

The veteran TV presenter has been part of TEN’s morning show for two years, alongside Chrissie Swan, Yumi Stynes and Gorgi Coghlan.

Drysdale has been a regular on the show for several days a week, due to other engagements and her residence in rural Victoria.

“After working non-stop for 52 years, it’s time for me to take a break. This is a huge step for me, I’m not sure how I’ll go! I have been a workaholic – there’s never been a time in my life where I haven’t been working, so it will take a while for me to get used to it,” she said.

“And what better time than with the arrival of my first grandson this week, Bodhi. I know I’m going to miss everyone, all the wonderful crew and of course Gorgi, Yumi and Chrissie.”

The show finished its last 2011 show with a musical number of the cast and regulars dressed as Roman godesses singing “Hold On.”

  1. Wow that comment/observation made by Moanique from Brisbane has to be the most honest as I to believe that was the case in a nut shell.
There was fraction in the works & knowing this media the show wanted a change in pace & as I’ve said before we as an audience will never know the real truth.
Like anything its all about ratings & this new direction is the way they roll.
I like Denise she is a really nice lady & not up herself. Replacement I don’t see that happening as there will be big boots to fill. xx

  2. Denise will be greatly missed, its a bit like being part of a family watching her career and enjoyed every moment of seeing Denise on television, she fitted in so well on the show. She made you laugh and feel really good, I will miss her for sure. Brings tears to my eyes thinking about not seeing her on the show in 2012, but is understandable and how wonderful her first grandchild arriving, being an involved loving grandmother myself know she will have a great time and how lucky for Bhodi having her in his lilfe, a beautiful gift both ways. Maybe Denise can fit in an occasional visit to the Circle, and would be invited, she would be most welcome I’m sure. I wish Denise all the very best for her future with lots of adventures and fun family times, maybe doing a little bit of work along the way, A huge thank you to Pam Barnes for giving Denise the Circle opportunity a very smart lady.

  3. Sorry to see denise go have been a big fan of hers for many years…but understand she needs to hang up her boots and relax and take time for herself and her family….But if you are to replace her then replace her with someone in the same age brackett for us more mature people who watch the circle each morning, someone with some comic relief like Collette Man, or Denise Scott,i dont think i would like to see a man take her spot, as they call themselves on the show (sisters) and i wouldn’t like to see a different host each day or week either, so come on circle get your act together and choose someone,
Denise Drysdale will be very hard to replace but we dont need another young one on the show.. someone for the mature people…

  4. OK….How about Kim Watkins….it was David that wanted out…not Kim….I think she would be good for either The Circle…or the breakfast show….I enjoyed her interviewing style….and I am sure she is in Melb.?!?!?

  5. According ot the paper today they arent replacing her full time with a newie. They will just have a different guest on each day. So it will be like normal when she wasnt there.

Denise Scott couldnt so it anyway because of winners and losers.

  6. What a shame they decide to announce it on her last day. Very silly if you ask me. They should have announced it the week before and made a big deal of her last week. People would have been more likely to tune in.
Whoever they replace her with they should make sure it’s someone who can do it full time. I thought Denise was great but her on and off appearances and constant stream of replacements always made the show seem like it was on holiday mode.

  7. Even though she was a star for 50 years, the reason people like her is because she comes across as one of us, a rarity amongst tv stars today. She just has that special quality that is hard to define. Normal people would feel comfortable to walk up and talk to her. Good luck Denise and thankyou.

  8. I don’t think Kate would want to do any more than once a week, she has four kids and to be doing three hours of breakfast radio immediately followed by two hours of live TV every weekday would probably be too much.

Denise Scott would definitely be the best I reckon.

  9. Much of this shows succes has been due to ding dong. The other girls have clearly learnt from her over the first shows first 6 months. And continued to be an excellent combination. This show will miss her live tv spontaneous character. They need an older funny female to replace her. Collette is boring. Ms Scott is the perfect fit.

  10. Sad to see Denise leave, but I agree with everyone else she wasn’t there that much. They need someone there fulltime. Just please no Em Rusciano. I can’t stand her.

  11. Thanks Denise for many years of fun & good times!
Colette Mann would be just perfect as the new couch dweller. I will happily fill in when she is busy. Am the right age if nothing else!!
Seriously, much as I love all the guys (what slightly aged female wouldn’t!!), please keep the regular team female.

    KAK ……..God forbid!

Regardless, 2012 will be yet another spectacular year!!!!

  12. I think this is a great idea… I’ve enjoyed Denise but I’ve never thought it fair how the others are obligated to be there full time whereas she works only 2 or 3 days a week. It must have been chaos for the producers to every week reach out to whoever to see if they could fill in as co host. Yumi and Denise both say spontaneous outrageous things but Denise’s outbursts have been a little embarrassing as of late…

Personally I would like to see Jane Kennedy and Kate Langbroek share the role. Jane from Mon to Wed and Kate from Thurs to Fri. I know alot people don’t enjoy Kate for some reason but I think she’s hilarious…

  13. Oh dear such sad news,l love Denise and have enjoyed all her tv work over many years and been too many of her live shows over the years.I only enjoyed the days on the of the show when she appeared. She is a legend and so funny and down to earth and honest unlike many of todays younger stars. The Circle needs another woman who is funny and down to earth to replace her.Collette Mann would be perfect for the role, but l hope they dont go for another younger woman instead. As someone here mentioned earlier.l agree Denise deserves a special logie award for 50 plus years on televison.Hope she enjoys her break, she will be greatly missed by so many. Thanks for the laughs Ding Dong.!
