Ed Sheeran (almost) live on X Factor

The watermark indicated he was "Live" on The X Factor but UK singer Ed Sheeran was in Germany, having already been to Switzerland.

UK singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran gave a captivating performance on last night’s X Factor -but Seven’s “Live” watermark didn’t discern that he was pre-recorded.

Sheeran was already in Europe having left Australia. Last night on Twitter he wrote: “Flying to Germany now, goodbye Switzerland x.” The hard-working young star had been on 12 planes in the last 2 weeks.

His acoustic performance was believed to have been recorded on Monday.

Susan Boyle’s performance last week was also pre-recorded. While both sang live in the studio, this type of later broadcast is commonly known as “As Live.”

Nevertheless it was certainly a big night for the show as Sydney trio Three Wishez was eliminated, sending vocalists Andrew Wishart, Johnny Ruffo and Reece Mastin into the series final next week.

The trio was cut despite a solid performance on Monday night singing the Black Eyed Peas’ “The Time (Dirty Bit).”

Singer Sophia said, “We just want to say thank you so much to everyone. We’re so lucky to be in the Top 4 and I’m so proud of us to get this far.”

Mentor Ronan Keating said, “I’m devastated to see these guys go home. Australia is going to miss out, there’s nobody like them. I hope to get their winner’s single out there on the radio, they deserve this chance!”

The remaining acts, Under 25 Males Reece Mastin and Johnny Ruffo and Over 25s vocalist Andrew Wishart, now face off in a two-part finale that features Kylie Minogue, The Fray and Salt ‘n’ Pepa.

  1. its LIive, as in “in front of a Live studio audience” so its not false advertising or spin
“live” has always been used in 2 contexts

why cant people realise johnny cant sing! how the hell has he made it this far on a show about singing?! he should have never made it past his first audition, as if he’ll become a decent artist if he wins (and i reckon theres a pretty big chance he will…) and 7 will have produced another flop artist (*cough cough*altiyan) but then again, how many australian idols were still around a year later LOL and how many seasons did 10 squeeze out of that? im sure it’ll still be around next year to find australias next biggest flop artist

  2. Im disappointed that Three Wishez got out def better then Johnny.

I highly doubt any of the acts will go international if they win….On Australian Idol the only ones that have done well overseas were Damien Leith in Ireland but only coz he comes from there and Guy Sebastien in Asia….

And Muzza obviously you have never watched a reality programme before because they do things like this all the time

  3. Well if we looking for a voice it has to be Andrew, if we looking for entertainment (and maybe the XFactor?) then Johnny is your man.

Will either (or Reece for that matter) sell records? A few but not gazillions I would think…

  4. Ed Sheeran was quite good, and it shows the advantage of having performed a swag of gigs before being signed.

As for the comment about Damien Leith hosting obscure shows, yes he’s done that, but his albums have been fairly successful too, although mainly his covers albums.

  5. Oh and forgot to say I think the Ed sheeran performance was from November 8 or so? As Mel B posted a photo with him and the other judges on her website then here melaniebrown.com/2011/11/08/ed-sheeran/

  6. So sad Three Wishez left. Was hoping they’d make the finals alongside Christina, and since she had already left was hoping it even moreso. Now who to win? I don’t see how things are going to really work out for Johnny and even moreso for Andrew so hopefully enough can gather around to vote for Reece I guess.

  7. Yep there will not be a successful music career out of this. I think 3 wishez, Declan and Christina could have sold a lot of albums and Audio Vixen could have found a niche. The top 3 will all be flops.

  8. I wanted Three Wishez to win! Oh well. Australia really needs a good RnB act. Andrew Wishart will go the way of Damien Leith if he wins…successful at first before moving on to hosting obscure programs on 7TWO. Reece is ok but his album is going to be a whole bunch of novelty pop songs if he wins – thanks to the nature of this show it’d be rushed into production with highly manufactured vocals and lyrics about fictional breakups too mature for a 16 year old to have experienced.

As for Johnny Ruffo he’s entertaining but his album would be a huge flop

  9. Last nights show was a disgrace. 7 you should be ashamed of yourselves. I am sick of networks trying to manipulate me into watching shows for longer. What they did to Reece was unforgivable. Letting him wait that extra 20 mins while they padded their show and he wasnt even in the bottom two. He was probably put in there so everyone would still watch as he is probably the most popular. . Not to mention the longest pregnant pause in history by the host. I’m afraid l wont be watching next year or even next week. Disgraceful.

  10. When Cyndi Lauper performed on Australian Idol a couple of years ago she did the same thing: performed on the performance show and they played it on the elimination show the next night as if she was live. I’m really not fussed that they do this. All I’m concerned about is that the artist plays and sings live and doesn’t mime.
