Greta wins Junior Masterchef 2011

11 year old West Australian Greta has won Junior MasterChef 2011 over 12 year old runner-up Jack.

11 year old West Australian Greta has won Junior MasterChef 2011.

She won the title ahead of Jack, 12, from Queensland after a series of challenges before judges Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris, Matt Moran, Anna Gare and special guest judges Tetsuya and Donna Hay.

Greta had been a strong contender for the title after a number of wins in recent episodes and takes home a cash prize of $15,000 and a kitchen prize pack while Jack received $10,000 and prizes.

She won with 92 points over Jack’s 84 points, impressing judges with a Deconstructed Citrus Tart with Tropical Mousse on Macadamia Nuts with Fresh Fruit and a Steamed Tian of Queensland Spanner Crab with Bean Curd, Water Chestnuts and Junsai.

Tetsuya said, “It’s not an easy dish and both did such a good job, but Greta’s dish was perfectly balanced with plenty of flavour. I hope to see her working in a fine dining kitchen one day.”

Greta said of her win, “I feel, like, amazing! I told myself don’t get your hopes up, but here I am! This has been the most amazing experience of my life. I want to continue with food and show the world how much I love it.”

Runner up Jack added, “I’m very proud of what I achieved. So many kids applied to be part of this show, and I came second! I have loved every minute of it, but the most important thing I leave with, are great memories and plenty of new friends.”

Despite the talented kids and handsome production values, the series has under-performed for TEN, possibly because of the fading allure of the overall brand.

TEN is yet to confirm if it will be renewed, and may replace the show with a different spin-off for 2012.

  1. Congratulations to Greta, she stood out from the start, she is one hell of an amazing cook. Congrats to Jack as well, he was also a breathtaking marvel in the kitchen, given his age.

It is a shame the show tanked this season. I guess in the end it just wasn’t prime time material. Ten have already signalled that the show is officially dead when it did not feature as part of the 2012 scheduling package shown to clients recently.

  2. Congratulation to Greta on winning Junior Masterchef. And well done to Jack too.
I do hope TEN brings back another series of Junior Masterchef, but if not how about another series of Celebrity Masterchef?

  3. good on you greta!

it was nice to see the winner from last year hand over the trophy.

its a shame the show didnt do well, i dont think it needed to be on prime time..it could have aired during the hours kids watch tv, somewhere between 3:30pm – 7pm.

  4. I liked Greta too, she was that bit more sophisticated in her cooking abilities than the other kids.
Despite the low ratings, I enjoyed the series – in many respects, it was better than the adult version earlier in the year.
