Jack Irish production halts

Exclusive: Production on ABC's Jack Irish telemovies has halted due to star Guy Pearce undergoing a kidney stone operation, but the star is doing fine.

Exclusive: Production on ABC’s Jack Irish telemovies has halted due to star Guy Pearce undergoing an operation to remove a kidney stone.

Pearce was taken to hospital last week but underwent an operation yesterday, which has necessitated production being suspended for three days.

Pearce, who recently won an Emmy Award, plays the title character in the two telemovies, based on books by author Peter Temple. It will mark his long-awaited return to Australian television.

An ABC spokesperson tells TV Tonight that Pearce is doing well and expected back on set as production resumes on Thursday.

Despite the interruption, production will get back on track given it’s a lengthy shoot for the two telemovies, set to roll into early December in Melbourne.

Jack Irish will screen on ABC1 in 2012.

  1. Very, very painful are kidney stones. The nearest men can get to the pain of child berth apparently – no way of proving that though is there? Most people have to wait until they pass through naturally ( I won’t go into details). Obviously if you’re famous enough, and a 100 crew are waiiting, you can get them removed so production isn’t held up for too long. Check the small print in your insurance policy everyone.
