Kerri-Anne to stay with Nine

"All good things have got to come to and end," says Kerri-Anne Kennerley in a classy, upbeat interview about her future.

Kerri-Anne Kennerley again proved what a class act she is when interviewed this morning about the end of her 9 years hosting morning television for Nine.

Speaking to Kyle and Jackie O she said, “Sonia (Kruger) is coming over to do Big Brother and from what I understand she’s going to host Mornings. Having known Sonia off and on over the years she’s a terrific girl, and sincerely wish her all the best. All good things have got to come to and end.

“They tell me I’m a valued part of the network and will stay… haven’t worked out what yet.

“Last Tuesday I was told, that ‘We’re thinking about things, we’ll let you know.’

Asked what happened next she said, “I read it in the paper. But that’s alright …it’s not a big deal. I’m still with the network and apparently, according to them, I will be with the network for a while. There’s hopefully new challenges.

“I’m a bit of a daytime girl. Daytime and live television is my thing, but it wouldn’t hurt to do some new challenges.”

“Besides Midday I’ve had one of the best gigs in TV. Of the 9 years 8 have been fantastic.”

Kennerley said she had been blessed with her career including Good Morning Australia and “virtually 30 odd years of ten hours a week, two hours a day, and that’s a slog.”

Speculation about her role has been under the spotlight for weeks, including when she took Leave. But media commentators have criticised Nine for not handling the change better, leading to many journalists to speculate over her future.

“Business is business and I’ve run businesses,” she said. “There is no easy way to effect change. Everybody’s ego gets dinted a bit. I’m no different to anybody else in any other job that finds themselves moving on. Whether you like it or not is besides the point. Get on, suck it up and enjoy.”

  1. Would love to see her given a primetime show or a live midday show again which brings me to the question… why was Midday axed in the first place, from memory it was rating through the roof after she took over.

Even better would be to have 2 great Tv legends her and Bert in a show together. Now that would be something. Forget clowns like hamish and andy, it’s these Tv legends that should get the spotlight.

  2. Oh no… not her staying on channel 9.. She reminds me like the voice the talks is that guy from the secret agent of the 70s series comedy.. that short guy who hides inside the phone booth and comes out with his phone hiden under his shoe…

Lets not think that she will wanna be so what Ellen how…. she just wanna be something american.. She should create something new.. what about a show how to do buy nitting and how to make nice homemade products.. But then again she wouldnt want to act and wanna be like that american show where they cook and make nice nitting suvouniers and so on on the show…

Let again make channel 9 all about big brother.. get rid of the silly boring same old Morning show… course all they do is advertice to take your money all this rediculours gym equipment and loosing waight advertice is like theres 5 of them… just horrible

  3. Ah daydreaming….I would also like Midday to come back….but with Nine’s money woes….it aint gonna happen….money was the reason it ceased, I seem to remember reading at the time?!?

  4. I can see why Nine want to freshen up their morning timeslot but Sonia is only around 12 years younger than KAK!… So that’s not a huge generational gap between them. It’ll bring in new viewers for the short term yes but after that…

If they really want to give mornings a face lift then why not start by giving the Today set a makeover for goodness sake..

  5. @ Steve B, totally agree, induct her into the Hall of Fame, she is an absolute legend. I am disgusted that she had to read about her future in the paper, after the loyalty she has shown Nine. How about Kerri-Anne as the new co-host of DWTS

  6. I agree with many. I like Kerri-Anne but I don’t like the show. I much preferred it when she hosted Midday who filled Ray Martin’s shoes quite well. Hope she is utilised at the network in a better way next year.

  7. I can’t personally stand your show, but I think you’re a great talent that could be better utilised at another network.

Forget Nine… they’re in the toilet and you’re much better off without them.

  8. Seven should hire her to make a point, and show how loyal, committed personalities should be treated. Fancy letting her find out only via the press that her show was being dumped. Disgraceful.

  9. How can she stay at Nine when there is no other show for her to be on? She’ll end up with 20 to one. We know Kerri Anne only likes live television so this is just a nice way to say thanks but there is no show in the future.

  10. KAK is without doubt one of the most under appreciated legends of Australian TV.
Give the woman a logie already – I really think after 30 years as pioneer for women on Australian TV – she should be inducted into the Hall Of Fame.
(I don’t believe she’s actually ever recieved a logie although has been nominated many times) Forget always being the bridesmaid, it’s time for her to have her day of days.
Bring back midday, and let this star shine once again.

  11. What a class act indeed. I personally can’t stand the show at the moment, but to have such an honourable host in charge is the one and only reason I will contemplate turning it on. What an absolute, tremendous person you are Kerrie-Anne. I really do wish you all the very best and hope Nine does indeed find a new position for you.

    You’re a great QLD talent.

  12. I recall the Bee Gees being in Sydney at Star City to help launch Paul Dainty’s proposed stage production of Saturday Night Fever. The media junket was already running late, but then, in swept KAK for a private audience with the 3 singers.

Kept us media type waiting another 30 mins.

    Good one, KAK.

BTW Dainty’s SNF didn’t get off the ground – David Atkins picked it up and made a few bucks out of it with a lean production featuring not very well known actors and limited seasons in Oz and the Asian route.

  13. I cant see her staying on at Nine. Not too mention nine’s massive debt problems. How can they afford to hire new people at that Network when they have a massive debt. It begger belief.
