Paul Henry talks up new Breakfast job

When Lachlan Murdoch rang him for a new TEN role, Paul Henry thought "Rich family. I'll take this call!"

Upcoming TEN Breakfast co-host Paul Henry has given an interview to NZ’s TV3 about landing his plum new job.

“I got a call from Lachlan Murdoch in Australia and he said, ‘It’s Lachlan here, Paul.’ And I thought ‘Lachlan? Hmm. Lachlan Murdoch? Aha! Rich family. I’ll  take this call!'” he said.

Henry will co-host Breakfast with Andrew Rochford and a yet to be announced female presenter.

When asked if he was earning  $1M (AUD$760,000) for the gig he said, “I won’t answer that question but I’m glad you asked because that is exactly the way I would ask that question.”

Pushed as to whether it was over or under $1M he answered, “Over.”

“It’s quite good isn’t it?”

You can see the interview here.

Henry continues his NZ commitments until March.

  1. God and i thought we might see some Great aussies on this show!! Poor move Ten! But then again has lachlan made 1 good decision yet for Ten? The answer is No!

  2. It’s a safe bet that Lachlan Murdoch will continue his family’s winning streak with this move. Watching the evil empire crash and burn has been the best show of 2011. Let’s hope it continues into 2012.

  3. This just soooooo can’t work !!

We can all see it, and yet the boss makes the call and signs him up.

    Amazing.

I reckon the word “muppet” might be the closest correct call so far

  4. Do Ten want this show to fail? Just asking, cos that could be the only reason they’d pick him. Wouldn’t be surprised if they name Deni Hines as the female host.

  5. Ten can’t be serious about paying this guy 760,000 bucks can they? That money could be spent better elsewhere not only that! He is unproven here in Australia 90% of the country won’t know who the hell he is?!? Stupid decision.

  6. AHenry is a completely pretentious jerk who whose lack of talent makes him an ideal host on Fox and Friends in the US.
He is cringeworthy and boring. and will make the classy Andrew Rochford’s task of having an intelligent conversation really hard.

  7. Over a million dollars for a controversial, arrogant and annoying man that most people hate… Hmm… Surprised they didn’t just save on the international airfare and just hire Kyle Sandilands
