Reece wins The X Factor 2011

Reece Mastin has won The X Factor defeating Andrew Wishart and Johnny Ruffo.

Sixteen year old Reece Mastin has won The X Factor 2011.

In a battle of generations, he defeated Victorian Andrew Wishart.

The South Australian schoolboy was always the series favourite, based on his vocal skills and confident performances.

“I just want to say thankyou to everyone who voted…. my family and friends, everybody,” he said.

He wins a Sony recording contract and management with his debut single “Good Night” available for download.

40 year old sales manager Wishart was congratulated for his vocal consistency across the series.

“You’re a legend, this is just the beginning,” said Natalie Bassingthwaighte.

23 year old concreter, Perth’s Johnny Ruffo was eliminated from the final at the mid-point of the show, but has clearly won a legion of fans who have watched him improve across the series.

Mel B summed it up when she said, “Australia is falling in love with you Johnny Ruffo.”

The finale also included re-appearances by the remaining Top 12 finalists as well as memorable audition acts including a full production number by Luke O’Dell singing “Introvert Extrovert” and former refugee Emmanuel Kelly singing “Imagine.”

The Fray and Kylie Minogue also performed again with elaborately staged numbers.

The finale capped off a successful season for Seven with bumper ratings ensuring its renewal for 2012.

  1. @SGT, we’re not all aware of what is “trending” – no need to be condescending to someone making a valid point.
@Deedeedragons – Matt’s point is also valid. Was watching XF final with a friend and her two kids and when the Revenge ad came on she asked them to look away as similar ads have given them nightmares.

  2. @amazingracealex – i hope Reece leaves the gap in his teeth – it somehow adds to his cheeky face…he’s a great looking kid and having dealt with him in person, he’s a really nice boy too. Congrats Reece – you earned it fair and square – now here’s hoping he brings rock to all those teeny boppers that would have ended up listening to hip hop and r & b if it weren’t for Reece! Had to laugh as he sung Aerosmith – pretty sure none of those squealing girls have any idea who Steve Tyler is?

  3. Reece’s single was co-written by P!nk wannabe Hayley Warner from Australian Idol 2009. At least we know who to blame now.

It’s gone #1 on iTunes already, but time will tell if he will be the next big thing, or the next Lee Harding (remember him?)

  4. Kylie looked Stunning tonight – loved the stripped back performance, to all those people out there who say she can’t sing blah blah blah – eat your words!
Very proud of Johnny – he has improved so much & has worked hard throughout the competition, I hope he releases a single soon.
Congrats to Reece though – bought his single – sounds great!

  5. @ Allie, I agree with you Allie. The series gives Aussies a chance to improve themselves and meet an audience. How can you fault that? Good luck to everybody who performed and who works backstage. And Kylie was spectacular.

  6. @Steve Sydney –
I was very disapointed with Kylie’s performance. She looked good, sounded great, but was expecting something with a wow factor.
The rendition of “I should Be So lucky” that she performed tonight was basically the exact same that she did on her “Intimate and live” tour in 1998.

Last night’s performance by the “Top 12” showed why most of them had been eliminated, and really was an embarrasment… Kylie even looked unimpressed and awkward having her hits destroyed.

X factor had great staging this year production wise, but last night and tonight both seemed cheap and nasty and not the way to treat Kylie.
I hope the ARIA awards pulls out something special for Kylie, otherwise i’d never blame her for not wanting to perform on Australian TV ever again.

  7. I was wondering when someone would bring up that the winning song is a rip off of Raise Your Glass. Pink sounds so much better though! I couldn’t stand Reece from the beginning but then again I thought the X factor was more Crap factor then anything. The US version leaves the aussie version for dead and the singers can actually sing!!

  8. The whole series has been great. So sad to see it go but it will be back. With the right promotion, Australian idol should be brought back and there is no way it can’t produce another star just like Reece. Just hope Reece remains level headed.

  9. @Matthew

LOL!… well then I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Good Christian Bitches promo as well hmmm? The snake in it looks particularly vicious!

  10. x factor was good but one thing i don’t like is all there promotion of “revenge” x factor is family friendly and “revenge” is obviously not.

TV shapes society, what people fill their brains with effects their behaviour. So why promo a adult drama during a positive family show?
