Renewed: The X Factor (US)

FOX has renewed the US version of Simon Cowell's X Factor for a second season.

It still has no sign of an Australian broadcaster but FOX has renewed the US version of Simon Cowell’s X Factor for a second season.

FOX’s Mike Darnell said, “It’s won every night it’s been on the air, the talent is phenomenal, the live shows are spectacular and picking it up is a complete no-brainer.

Cowell added: “I am absolutely thrilled with the news. I have loved making the show.”

The show hasn’t matched American Idol‘s audience but it has lifted with its live performance shows, averaging 13.5 million this season and propelling the network to the top spot on Thursday in 18-49 demos for the first time in its history.

The show is heading into its Top 12 performance show.

FremantleMedia Australia, which holds the Aussie rights to the series, isn’t keen to have the show aired in this market while the local version is its prime concern on Seven.

  1. Yip Jerome, have to agree. The talent in the US is absolutely amazing and will be interesting to see how the public votes.

As for entertaining, lets just see how we go now the elminations started.

  2. At the moment i feel the US version of X Factor feels forced. I guess a bit like ours was last year. Its got amazing production values but something doesn’t gel right now on the show. Glad it got a 2nd season though. I guess the big question is how much will American Idol suffer because of this. X Factor is only going to get stronger i feel as the weeks go on so it will be interesting.

Also i agree with Miller here. American Idol wasn’t the reason Aus Idol dropped significantly last time it was X Factor. TEN made a disaster happen with the first time it aired here. I feel Seven should air X Factor US on 7mate or 7two over the summer. I can see the reluctance by Fremantle to at least delay it until our version is finished but it would be good to see it. Put it this way the US version airs in the UK at the same time as the UK version being on the air and it hasn’t hurt its local version so i don’t think it would happen here either.

  3. MuchoTB, I’m gonna have to disagree with you. The reason why Aus Idol’s third season was down was not due to Ten playing American Idol. It was because they had already had The X Factor earlier in the year and it was also because the talent wasn’t as good as previous years.

It would have been interesting to see what would happen with American Idol if Ten had it now. It feels like an ELEVEN show, but ELEVEN doesn’t need it. It might have actually gone on the main channel.

  4. the production values are rediculous. i think it is going to be difficult for any americans to settle back to American Idol which is looking a lot like X factors poor cousin unless Idol gets a massive budget increase.

from what i’ve seen of it there is no comparing the talent between Aus and US, US always does it better, but there is something about it that i think the Aus version is more entertaining. I definately like our judges more.

  5. Airing American Idol on Channel Ten was what led to a massive decline in ratings in Aus Idol’s third season, so I’m not surprised the US version isn’t being aired here.

That said I’ve watched the US version online (including the live shows) and IMO the talent and judges here in Australia is superior this year. The UK series is great too, Craig Colton is a standout performer and Tulisa and Gary Barlow are great as judges
