United States of Tara was excellent.
Spirited was too, but finished satisfactorily I think.
Gruen & Chaser guys will no doubt be back. Love them.
The rest – either don’t know them or couldn’t care if they’ve gone!
P.S. Bed of Roses was just plain horrible. How it got even one season is a mystery! Shudder…
Inbetweeners will return with two specials. Confirmed by Channel 4.
United States of Tara is the biggest loss there, in my opinion, and I would love to see another series of Torchwood.
V got the axe? Where have I been?
Love some more At home with Julia and Hamster Wheel.
I’d like to correct something about ‘Collectors’, ‘New Inventors’ and ‘Art Nation’. According to Claudia Chan Shaw (host of Collectors whom i got to meet in Brisbane recently) Collectors has not ‘officially’ been ‘axed’ by the ABC.
It is currently on ‘hiatus’. And the word according to Kim Dalton himself (who mentioned this at a corporate function) the reasons these are on ‘hiatus’ is because they need to find the money from existing budget to keep ABC 24 going….as they get no extra money from the govt. God knows why!
So…..if anyone wants to see these shows back, you need to write to Kim Dalton himself at the ABC in Sydney and express your disppointment and petition for these shows to come back. Apparently, he will answer you back being a public servant.
Will this do any good? Who knows…..but i’m certainly going to give it a try…
Cheers
“Taggart” was dropped by ITV in England, however STV in Scotland have made it well known that they fully intend to continue the program. So we may still see more new episodes of Taggart in the future. Lets hope so!! 🙂
I disagree that the final series of Rush was brilliant. I enjoyed it (and I Love Rush) but I think the continuing story wasn’t a good idea, even though other stories were indispersed throughout. Doing it that way didn’t encourage new viewers, and if you missed an episode or two, it was hard to catch up.
I still think Rush was the best police series ever produced in this country, it was wonderfully done and the cast, script and acting were impeccable.
It will be sadly missed.
@MuchoTB yes I saw the final half a season of WAT too. Finally. Now if only we could get that last season of Medium….
I recall WAT returning but didn’t think they made it to the end. I have adjusted WAT and L&O based on reader advice. Good news on Medium is imminent.
JB: City Homicide is not returning.
My 2 cents worth on some of those shows
I will miss
The Defenders – was good for a laugh; Spooks – Great show; Swift & Shift – 10 times better than Housos; No Ordinary Family – Good for a laugh
Boring
Spicks and Specs – I found it sooo boring, even RockWiz is not as good as it used to be
Were good but went bad
City Homicide – started of OK but after a few seasons it just killed itself; Sea Patrol – the effects were bad and the scripts got worse, should had drowned earlier; Lie to Me;
Rush; The Event
Just plain rubbish
Ben Elton; Warnie; Human Target; Charlies Angels; Hung
You can probably add “Housos” to the Future Unclear section. Don’t think it’ll get a second series.
Didn’t realise that The Weakest Link had been cancelled in the UK. That had been going for years!
Actually, TEN has showed all the episodes of Law & Order so it is completed.
David
You missed the Sarah Jane Adventures – ended due to the death of Elisabeth Sladen (the star of the show)
So City Homicide still might be coming back since it hasn’t been “axed”???? City Homicide was the best Aussie show on tv, I loved it. And i hate Seven for axing it. It was their fault the ratings dropped because they kept moving it around. When will they learn?
And when CH got axed, that put Rush as the best Aussie show and now that’s gone. The final series was brilliant and the best yet. Guess i should look at that as a good thing, but it sucks that quality Aussie show get shafted too soon just because networks don’t want to invest in them. Hate you too Ten.
I will miss the weakest link & spicks and specks
TEN – what were you thinking. A very selective cull of quality shows. Who are you programming for?
You should add How To Be A Gentleman to the US list.
@ Adam : As David said, you should have read the first paragraph before you commented…
Yep, Ten definitley finished Law & Order (albeit late on a Thursday night)…
This post updates…….. but the shows wont 😉
I’m pretty sure Nine screened the final Without a Trace episodes on GEM earlier this year, and TEN has already screened the final episode of Law and Order (or at least they got very close, in the 10:30 Thursday timeslot)
lol @ Warnie, completely forgot that “program” ever got commissioned in the first place
I expect The Hamster Wheel will be back for a second series
Axed or Ended you mean… Oprah, Rush and others weren’t Axed…they ended on their own terms…
Adam: Rush was not renewed by TEN, but rest assured Southern Star would have happily produced another season. In any case I have qualified all of this at the top of the article as a story about shows we farewelled in 2011 .
Craig: Spirited is not yet renewed.
I hope Bazura gets another series, the first was very good.
Wow that’s a long list.
I thought Top Gear AU was axed given the way Nine has treated the show. Not to mention TG US has gone MIA on GO! after just a few weeks on air.
Spirited – hasn’t this been given some life?
Doctor Who Confidential – I’ll miss this the most.
