Clive James in Queen’s New Year Honours
Clive James is one of several showbiz names honoured in the Queen’s New Year Honours list.

Veteran Australian broadcaster and writer Clive James has been honoured in the Queen’s New Year Honours list.
James received a CBE, or Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
Other entertainers to receive a CBE include comedian Ronnie Corbett, Helena Bonham Carter, and Who Wants to Be A Millionaire creator and Celador Entertainment founder Paul Smith.
Television executive Peter Bazalgette, who brought Big Brother to the U.K. during his stint as Endemol chief executive, was also recognised.
Television presenter Lorraine Kelly and Sky News war reporter Alex Crawford both receive an OBE.

Putting a “Sir” in front of his name is probably more than guaranteed that Clive James won’t be invited as a guest to the Sydney Writers’ Festival.
James is that rare breed- an intellectual who celebrates the ordinary.
