Crawfords classics on 7TWO

7TWO is screening Crawford Production's Young Ramsay and Five Mile Creek, while Seachange is on the way.

Readers who are longing for classic Aussie dramas should turn their attention to 7TWO from today.

It’s screening Crawford’s Young Ramsay and Five Mile Creek this afternoon.

Young Ramsay (1977-80) starred John Hargreaves as a country vet. The better-known Five Mile Creek, (1983-85) was screening last month on the channel and begins Season Three today. The colonial series, made for the US market with Disney, included Louise Caire Clark, Jay Kerr, Liz Burch, Rod Mullinar, Gus Mercurio, Michael Caton and a very young Nicole Kidman.

From Friday, 7TWO will also begin to replay Artist Services’ ever-popular Seachange from 7:30pm.

  1. Well they lasted all of 2 weeks – this is why I loathe these telly stations – replacing aussie classics with US bad 80s non-coms like Growing Pains!!!

Why were they cancelled so soon?

  2. Please chanel 7 make up your mind what 7two is . It hasn’t got much lifestyle content and now Emmerdale has disappeared! Not happy. Back to the radio.

  3. I wouldn’t mind seeing old Australian shows repeated which will be good even some that are great and some that are flopped. Maybe I hope One HD would rerun Prisoner. I agree that if only WIN had a better relationship with Nine, all Crawford shows would have a better run on GEM but then maybe Ten (WIN has a 10% stake) could have a chance to play Crawford shows on One but then I doubt it since Crawford never had a good relationship with Ten in the past apart from the success with The Box and The Henderson Kids while others such as Holiday Island, Carsons Law and Special Squad all flopped on Ten.

  4. Hmmm… WIN-owned Crawford’s doing deals with Seven? Almost all of their catalogue could’ve worked as GEM daytime programming if they had a better relationship with Nine.

  5. Have just about finished watching Seachange on DVD (all 3 series). Have watched this every summer for the past 5 or so years when there is not much on TV. It’s the greatest Aussie series ever made.Saw it when it was originally on the ABC and the numerous times they repeated it.
But I certainly wont be watching a butchered version on 7TWO. Heaven forbid!

  6. Young Ramsay is the more well known to me too,had never heard of Five Mile Creek.

Young Ramsay is a great show and I taped it last time in 2008 but didn’t start taping until ep 3 and always regreted it. I never thought they’d ever show it again so needless to say I’m very happy to see it get another run and to be able to record it all with a digital reception.

And yes I would love to see other classics get a run..The Box would be awesome but I’d be in heaven if someone rerun The Restless Years.

  7. Young Ramsay would be the more famous for me too. I think Five Mile Creek may have ended up being shown in daytime. I’d like to know what happened to the Aussie show 72 was already screening. Sons & Daughters. It along with the other morning soaps have dissappeared. Are they coming back?

  8. Bluey (Bargearse) wins hands down in bringing repeats back. Along with Kingswood Country. Look on the bright side with 7two at least Physic TV isn’t on it yet, like it is with 74Me and Gem!

I wonder if 7 will start showing all these shows all roughly on at the same time across all their channels likethey do mid week with Sons & Daughters.

  9. I think Five Mile Creek was only ever shown in a Saturday/Sunday afternoon slot in Sydney. Young Ramsay was a big hit originally but suffered when it had a timeslot change for the second season. Look out for a very slim and young John Howard in a big role in the second season.

  10. WIN-owned Crawford Productions is advertising “Flying Doctors” some 300 eps on DVD. Been advertising The Sullivans (some eps) also on DVD. They used to air Division 4, Carson’s Law and Matlock Police in the 1am-4am slots.

  11. Ohhhh the mouth waters ….

Does that mean some other classic Aussie TV such as ‘The Box’, ‘Class Of 74’, ‘The Young Doctors’, ‘Cop Shop’, ‘Skyways’, ‘Carson’s Law’, ‘Taurus Rising’, ‘Richmond Hill’ and ‘The Restless Years’ might now air.

I would especially love to see ‘The Restless Years’ repeated.

  12. @Warrigul: Five Mile Creek was shown here on the Seven Network. In Melbourne I think it was shown on Friday nights, don’t know about other states.

Also D@GP, the first 50 episodes of The Sullivans have been released on DVD with the next 50 episodes to be released soon. (refer to the Crawfords Australia website)

p.s. David, I believe it was John Hargreaves who played the vet in Young Ramsay 🙂

  13. This is good to see – hopefully The Sullivans, Carson’s Law, and the rest of Crawford’s productions (even The Box!) will be screened on this platform in coming months.

  14. Actually, Young Ramsay is better known to me than Five Mile Creek. It has been shown on the ABC and Seven. Was Five Mile Creek even shown on Australian television?
